I'm looking into Hobart and William Smith College, but I honestly don't know much about the school, i've gone through their website, but i'd like to know if anyone has any opinions/thoughts to share about the school, their programs, their "value", student life there, etc?

Not sure if I should be posting this somewhere else to be sure I get replies?

I have visited HWS, really liked it, but my applicant did not, if you are interested in LAC’s I could suggest a few & you could see if they fit academically and financially:

Skidmore College (NY)
St. Lawrence University (NY)
Union College (NY)
Wheaton College (MA)
Connecticut College (CT)
Bennington College (VT)
Alfred University (NY) A highly ranked Regional University, established in 1836.

I have a friend who’s an alum, he’s thrilled that his daughter was accepted '16. It’s an LAC with a particularly strong reputation for its nurturing atmosphere. My own D wasn’t interested because she wanted to be in MA. Seems like it gets a whole lotta snow (lake effect and all that).

HWS is definitely a small LAC. It is strictly personal preference if that type/size of school is a good fit for you or not. My S felt the small LACs were too small, but my D immediately knew that they were right for her.

Thanks for the input, the college in itself is small, but being that it’s in NY would I still get the “big city” experience? (i’m new to the USA, and live in NC right now, I honestly don’t know anything about NY other than NYC)

Geneva (where HWS is located) is 300 miles away from NYC in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. Nothing “big city” about it, although is about 40 minutes from Rochester, a medium-sized city. If you are looking for a medium to large university near a big city I’m afraid HWS would not be near the top of your list.

Nice campus in a small undistinguished town. Next to the lake, which is scenic, and I believe they have a good sailing team. HWS attracts prep school applicants who can’t make it into top tier LACs in our area.
