Hobart & William Smith vs. SUNY Geneseo

This semester I completed transfer applications and am looking to start at a new college as a sophomore this fall.
I have two colleges that I will ultimately choose from: HWS or SUNY Geneseo. I am looking to enroll in the childhood education program and earn teacher certification for NYS.
I am so stressed about about what school to choose. I attended Fairfield University this year and did not like the high population of snotty, rich kids. Therefore, I have some reservations about attending another private school such as HWS. However, I recognize the benefits of a private school and the connections one can make to help career wise.
SUNY Geneseo was my second choice school last year and I am very comfortable with the campus. I know that the students are friendly and I’d have an easier time fitting in and making friends. However, the education program is very rigorous and if I decided along the way that I didn’t want to teach, I would not be able to graduate on time. Conversely, at HWS, the education program is only a minor and I would still graduate with a major in English should I change my mind about teaching. The HWS program is “alternative” in that I would be in elementary classes for the next three years leading up to my student teaching.

I’m so lost. I know Geneseo’s program is stronger, but should I change my mind, HWS would be better for me. I just can’t afford to lose another year or screw up with my choice again.

Geneseo hands down. Great campus and reputation. Nice little town, right above the campus. HWS is a really average private school, that I can guarantee is filled with “rich snotty” kids.

PLUS, you cant even get your major at HWS. Do yourself a favor and go to Geneseo.
