Does anyone know anything about it? It's an all-girls school in Texas and I wanted to know how it compares to NE schools. Which is better, MPS or Hockaday? What kind of school is it? Is it good? Are the kids nice? What's the boarding like? etc. Is everyone who goes there from the south? I'm from New York, so would I fit in? Thanks. Any info is helpful. Oh, and I'm going into 11th next year and applying late. They have space. I called.

Purpoisepal, being from Texas, I can tell you that Hockaday is a very very good school. However, to compare to MPS would be very difficult. Hockaday has a very small boarding population, I believe around 4-8% and therefore most all are from Texas. As for matrics, they have a relatively large number that goes to Stanford as well as other very good schools, just not the number of east coast schools the NE boarding schools attend. Good Luck to you..............

Hockaday's a great school, but personally, it feels more of a day school than a boarding school. I'm also a NYer and I looked at MPS and almost went there (and then decided to stay in NYC day schools) and I think that as a NYer, MPS would be a better fit.

MPS doesn't have room, and I'm trying to find a really good boarding school that does have room. It's hard... Thanks, though. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Did you visit Hockaday by the way, bluestar7?

I've only been to Hockaday for a graduation ceremony of a good family friend :) I didn't want to consider anything outside of the area.

I don't know if you've looked at Chatham Hall (NC) and The Madeira School (DC)-- but I know girls who've been there and loved it; I actually looked at Madeira because of family in the area... I mean, these are great all-girls schools if that's what you're looking for

All I know that Hockaday debate is really good. Those girls...ahh... ;)

Academically, if you could rank the all-girls boarding schools, how would it go? Which is the best? Second best? etc. Thanks!

My daughter went to Hockaday (day student) through 10th grade before she went off to Interlochen. I live a couple of miles from the school. It has an extremely small boarding component and I would NOT recommend it. The boarding is mainly for rural Texans and Mexican nationals who come to the states for a couple of years to learn English and study. I repeat- Hockaday is an excellent DAY school but is not even in the same category as the boarding schools in the northeast and elsewhere in the country.

Have you heard of/considered Emma Willard? It's in Albany, NY. A wonderful school/place....my d applied therel, plus MPS, Westover, etc......just a suggestion. Check out the website "emmawillard.org"

purpoisePal, Like the coed schools it is very difficult to rank the all-girl bs. Like the coeds there are a number that I would group together, that from my research have great programs and may suit one person better than another. Emma Willard, MPS, Westover, Chatham hall, and foxcroft. Miss hall's also has a great program but I wonder how the school may be effected by the small endowement. Good Luck!

Hockaday IS a day school with a very small boarding program. It is run like a day school, so the programming that you find at a boarding school is not there. Beautiful dorms.
Hockaday is an excellent school. A former boss of mine has two daughters there…well, one graduated and one still there.
Comparing it to a traditional Eastern boarding school would be bad because that is not their niche.
Excellent school that has boarding. If you are looking for a great education and opportunities stemming from that, go there. If you are looking for the Eastern socialite scene, go elsewhere.
