People that just left for Miss Porter's

If you are a new or old boarder at MPS, can you tell me how you like it so far? What are the people like, do you like your classes, do you like the school overall? Please give me any feedback, positive or negative. I got late acceptance this summer and could not attend for financial reasons, but will be applying again this year.
Thanks!

There was this dancer once who absolutely hated it an tried to transfer to andover. It was a big brewhaha on CC. Dooley locked the thread down

Walden4000: that thread goalrilla mentions is clearly not representative of the MPS experience....wait for some posters who have more information.

I don't know. The thread was filled with details about the ways the girls treated each other. Also, the poster was posing as a URM ( you never really know). Miss Porters sounded like a traditional girls school with a throwback to an internal class system. A little of the " mean girls" theme. The Oprah scholars were subject to being treated like caddies at the pool at Bushwood Country Club.

i have a friend who hates it there,
but shes only been there for 2 weeks, so you should probably wait for a firsthand report :D

Every school will have a student who hates it there (my son has a freind who hates it a very "well regarded on this board" school...) and/or who can give you an experience like the thread goalrilla is mentioning. Also, to be honest, that story sounds a litte too sensational to be true to me.

Miss Porter's has an excellent reputation and I know at least one regular here has a daughter there (Shelley I think?).

To the OP - you shoudl find out if (later in the fall) they allow applicants to spend the night. That is a great way to see a lot of the social aspects of the school first hand without the "controlled" enviroment of the tour.

goalrilla, the old thread was mostly posts by one exceedingly unhappy girl who was caught in many, many mis-statements. The responses were from parents trying to help out, until folks went back and read everything the OP had posted and caught on to the exaggerations, etc. I believe the thread was locked to protect the OP from the recriminations that were being posted.
The post had very little to do in reality with Miss Porter's.
My daughter is a senior at Porter's this year. If anyone wants a parent's view, please PM me.

Good friend's D graduated in '07 -- he tells me that every girl who entered in her freshperson class graduated. This is almost unheard of and says something pretty good about the school.

Sadly, that class included the Petit girl from Cheshire, CT who was murdered with her sister and mother in that infamous case.

Fun is fun, that Petit case was so horribly tragic and got alot of media where we live...I believe the girl was headed for Yale too. Very very sad.

Dartmouth...
