Hofstra vs. Quinnipiac

Dual interests in Health Sciences and in Film/TV production.
Which has more opportunities, larger alumni network and better reputation? And better teaching?

Well, Hofstra’s comm department is pretty darn good, and they did just build a medical school. You’re also a quick train ride from NYC…convenient if you wind up interning in the city. Probably more opportunities for this at Hofstra.

Quinnipiac is solid in both of those major areas, as well. I’d say alumni network and teaching are pretty solid at both.

You’re really gonna need to visit…Long Island is quite different than CT, and Hofstra draws a lot of LI/NJ/NY kids - maybe more diversity at Quinnipiac?

Also consider cost - both are expensive - this could come down to who offers you more money.

I also have to say this: to break into tv/film production, you don’t even need a college degree…it’s all about who shows up in LA, does the grunt work to begin with, makes connections and networks, and is willing to put in the time to move up the ladder. Anybody can get a job as a production assistant out in LA; they’re not looking at where you went to college. You’ll start out fetching Starbucks and move up from there. It’s a tough field and few in that business have film degrees from UCLA or USC.

I looked at Quinnippiac a few years ago (although my S ended up elsewhere) and felt it was solid in those two areas. Never looked at Hofstra so I can’t opine on that.

You might also consider student life – I think Quinnippiac has more of a residential campus while Hofstra still has a sizeable number of commuters.

If there is a big cost difference that is a factor as well.

Can you revisit the two schools before making a decision?
