Assuming both are of equal cost, which school do you think I should choose for Electrical Engineering based upon the factors of academic excellence, university prestige, social life, weather (I'm from Central America) internships and future jobs?

I have to decide before the first of May and really don't know what to choose. It is so hard by being an international students to make these hard decisions practically blind.

Hey Makeman012,
I am a current student here at Hofstra, so I think I may be able to help a little bit! I really love Hofstra because of the amazing experiences it offers you with!
Firstly, we are located so close to NYC, internships and jobs are extremely accessible!
As far as social life, Hofstra has over one hundred student run clubs, so there are always events and club activities going on that allow for you to meet people with similar interests as yourself! Besides clubs, Hofstra has events always happening on the weekend! Pretty much there is always things to do on campus!
Academically, I would say that the work is changeling, but not impossible. Of course, every major has a different amount and difficulty as far as work is regarded, but overall Hofstra really challenges their students so we can all succeed! With your certain major, I am not too familiar with however, you should check out our website for it(if you haven’t already!) <a href=“Engineering | Hofstra University”>http://www.hofstra.edu/academics/colleges/hclas/engnr/engnr_electrical_engineering.html
Also, do not worry about being an international student! I know plenty of people from all around the World, and so do many of my friends! International students are appreciated and greatly welcomed at Hofstra!

Lastly, Long Island may be a little windy but its perfect weather, since we get all four seasons!
Hope this helps!

Have you seen RIT? a very impressive school. 1,500 acres with some amazing facilities. Outside of NYC, RIT is one of 3 really good schools of engineering (Cornell and Renssalaer Poly are the other 2). Just to provide a little comparison, Hofstra undergrad engineering is ranked 397th and RIT is 64th. But in the end it is your drive that makes your career, not a school ranking.

BUT if you are from Central America…Rochester is central NY and gets some wicked snow and cold!!! Long Island gets cold and snow, but nothing like Central NY State. That alone may be a very big factor for you.

You really should visit both before you decide. You will do well and stay warmer at Hofstra.
