How "Holistic" is the admissions process at Dartmouth really? Is there a chance that they might overlook a bad math SAT I score if I have the other stuff to make up for it?

...bump...

how bad are we talking? like cc bad? as in a 790 or like 500?

well, we are talking 510 (ugh, i know...) but my other scores were an 800 verbal and a 750 essay; however, i don't really think everyone wants to read all of my stats, so i'll just say that otherwise I'm a pretty good candidate and leave it at that.

as long as you don't plan on being a math major and your other stuff is really good, you may have a shot

i disagree with cow tipper

an admission officer will say gee he/she got an A in geometry, precalc
trig etc and got a 510 on math...which is jus t the median probaoby for
the nation...RETAKE it...
i hope it doesnt matter but to me thats a glaring no

here is the stats form a post by slipper for last class entered at D

SAT MEAN:
Math 722
Verbal 715

SAT Medians:
Math: 730
Verbal: 730

All of my grades in math range from B-pluses to B's...what can I say, it's just not my thing.

i would definitely retake. why do you think you did so bad? from your grades it doesn't seem like you're that bad at math; do you think it was just nerves? it's pretty clear that you're not a bad test taker naturally (based on writing and critical reading).

I did retake it, actually, and I scored 20 points worse. I honestly don't know, math has never been my subject but I'm not an idiot at it. Perhaps I'm just not good at taking that section. I'm would like to hope that dartmouth might overlook that section, but I'm thinking no...

I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but you'd probably need about a 150-point increase in your math score to be on a level playing field. I don't know your life history, so I can't judge based on other extenuating circumstances.

hey, thanks for your opinion. honestly, you're probably right, and I know that.

did you misgrid? if you're not an idiot in math and ur grades are b,b+... i really cant see how you got a 510. i think you misgridded lol [or blame cb for grading error haha]

I'd say you still have a chance. Academic diversity is also something the colleges look for, and so long as you have a strong track-record in the humanities, it might even make you a stronger candidate.
