Is anyone else alarmed by the fact that there are 91 people being looked at for this scholarship? I was expecting upwards of around 40 . . .

Don't worry. Furman merit awards are naturally extremely selective. However, this allows for truly good communicators (interviewers notably), to stand out. If that is your strength, you are fine. But do remember that finalists who are not awarded the major scholarships are still considered for other merit packages.

In addition, this is the first year for a Hollingsworth Finalists Competition On-Campus. This new scholarship was done by application/phone contacts last year and yielded an excellent class of 20 scholars! They are strong leaders on our campus already. I personally know the majority of them.
Everyone in Furman Admissions and Scholars is looking forward to seeing how this year's selection plays out. It will certainly be experimental, in a sense. Keep in mind that every South Carolina applicant who completed the Hollingsworth supplemental materials has been considered for this scholarship. Those invited to campus should surely feel confident that they are among the strongest leaders and students in the state. Any questions, let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you all on campus this Friday!!
