My daughter is considering Holy Cross but we are wondering about how conservative the school is. D is quite liberal politically. She has gone to Catholic school her whole life, including a Jesuit high school, and has loved them. We know the Jesuits are the liberal voice of the Catholic church. But we wonder if the student body is conservative at HC, or would she find like-minded students. Also, we have heard the Political Science department is conservative. Any feedback on that?

Congratulations on her acceptance, ctprospect!

I attended Jesuit schools, as did many in my family. My uncle went to HC in the 1940s. He was “broad-minded”, to say the least. His take: “the Jesuits and Holy Cross taught me how to think”.

It is a sentiment that has echo-ed through our family for generations. This is why you send you children to Jesuit school - to learn to think thoroughly for themselves. Have faith, in every way!

I like to call the Jesuits “liberal Catholics.” Of course there are conservative people, but I can’t say I’ve met many super conservatives. There are people of all kinds at HC. I can’t speak for the Poly Sci Department…
