Is Holy Cross as Liberal as some people make it out to be? I know the faculty at most colleges ins iberal, and that’s fine. I am concerned that if the student body is extremely Liberal, Holy Cross wouldn’t be a good fit for me at all.(I am a Tea Party conservative) Are there conservatives at Holy Cross?
I am looking for a PREPPY school, with a strong Poltical Science program. Would Holy Cross be a good fit for me in that regard?
I know Holy Cross is a Catholic(Jesuit) school, and I hear the student body is mostly Catholic. I don’t have any issue with that, but I am a devout(and quite conservative) Episcopalian. Would that be a problem at HC?
Thanks guys!
Yes, there are conservative students at Holy Cross. In fact, one ranking of liberal v. conservative students ranked HC on the conservative side. However, overall, the faculty is quite liberal, but the Political Science department is moderate to conservative and is very strong. Highly recommended.
Holy Cross has a Naval ROTC unit. Probably most of those midshipmen are conservative or moderate. They wear uniforms once or twice a week. You could strike up friendships with some of them.
I would call Holy Cross “preppy” and 75% of students are Catholic. I think you will be fine as an Episcopalian at HC. Yes, HC is a rather liberal institution, but you could probably find a way to get comfortable there; especially in PolySci.
Nrotcgrad I checked that link and can’t see where it says what the percentage of liberal students are. The description mentions ratings, so I wonder if it was percent who ranked the student body as predominantly liberal or conservative. Couldn’t get percent of student body as libeal or conservative unless they surveyed most of student body and asked them what their political affiliation was, which doesn’t appear to be case. Hard to imagine that a significant majority of hc students are conservative, but should be enough to feel comfortable there, although tea party intolerance of others’ political views could prove challenging at times.
