S21 denied. Disappointed but not shocked - it was a reach for him. Thought he had a chance based on Jesuit high school, decent stats, and lots of demonstrated interest (interview, virtual events, etc.)
Rejection letter said 6,500 apps for 830 spots. Very competitive.
Congrats to everyone excepted!
would you mind sharing stats? my brother is applying this fall…probably also a reach.
3.7 UW.
No tests.
Mostly Honors, a few APs.
accepted w/ magis 20k. 3.84 uw, 34/35 ss, 8 APs, good essay, very good high school. So grateful to have this as an option.

I am sorry that your son was waitlisted. Is it a definite that you don’t get FA off waitlist? My son got into Holy Cross and Colby. Holy Cross offered very good aid as did Colby. (3.9 UW GPA 4.32 W GPA with 1480 SAT) He did not interview, but toured as a junior and displayed interest. (Holy Cross AO presentation stressed that they track displayed interest such as opening of emails, participating in online events, etc. ), He is coming from a Catholic school with 7 APs, community service, extracurriculars and sports.
If Colby is offering you admission , great aid and there are no other schools in the running in his list of favorites, consider taking Colby up on their offer! It’s an amazing school- I loved my experiences there.

(@BC10012) Your ACT excellent score is definitely at the high end of the HC applicants so no surprise with the Magis. Good luck weighing your options - I’m sure you have several - going forward.
We wrote the admissions office about the possibility of FA off of waitlist and they advised it would be “extremely limited” so I don’t think he’s going on waitlist. He did interview and other virtual events and went to solid public HS with 6 APs. He is very happy with Colby offer and surprised, he actually thought he would have had a better shot at getting into HC and expected waitlist/denial from Colby. He’s never seen Colby and they’re not offering tours, so it’s tough to go sight unseen. In any event, he feels very fortunate.
Thanks for sharing that. My son received the Faber scholarship – in the same amount, 20K per year. I had been wondering how much Magis would be. My son’s stats are very similar. 3.8, 33 ACT, 8APs, Catholic high school, excellent recs, lots of leadership and activities, service.
would holy cross be worth ~30k total loans for a premed?
Daughter got into HC but older sister attends Colby. Just an amazing school with a ridiculous amount of good things going on. Colby is certainly not a second fiddle. Congrats

Med school is very expensive. If you want med school my suggestion is you go to your least expensive option for undergrad and talk with them ahead about med school acceptance rates.
Although your child might intend to go onto med school, they might discover that some of those o-chem or whatever classes are just too hard. Or they discover a new area of study that they love and change their mind about med school. Just make sure that whatever school they end up at, they are well prepared for their futures and are in an environment that allows them to explore and grow.
We have friends who had a child do their undergrad at a less expensive state school and then go onto a very expensive med school program.
