I am currently a freshman at Holy Cross and am in the pre-med program. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about HC. There are many things I love about HC. There are also some things I personally dislike. I'll answer an questions you have as honestly as I can.

Awesome! Well, what are some of things you like about it and what are some of the things you don't like about it?

Ok. Well, lets start with the likes.
1) Wonderful relations with teachers. (You can get this at many good schools, particularly LACs)
The teachers at HC are extremely personable. I love not being just a face in the crowd. 3 of the 4 teachers I had last semester I approached multiple times outside the classroom. Usually it would not even be subject-related. I'd just walk into the office and shoot the sh** with them. For example, the day before I left for Christmas break, my philosophy professor called me on my room phone and asked if he wanted to get some coffee and hang out.

2)Friendly and Fun Atmosphere
Students at HC are very friendly, accepting, and tolerant. I would say most kids like to party hard, then study hard. Very "down to earth" student body. People here love to have fun, but they don't disregard their academics.

3)Student Body size-its around 2700 students. This is all a matter of preference. Personally, I think this is the perfect student body size. It's small, but not so small that you bump into the same students every day.

4)Beautiful campus
It is absolutely gorgeous! Some complain that it's too hilly, but I don't mind it. Climbing "the hill" everyday helps me burn off the calories from the night before. ;)

5)Division I sports despite being small
I love that we are still a division I sports team (except in football and I think one other sport). granted, we aren't an amazing sports school, but we've got some good athletic teams. Very few LACs are division I.

My Dislikes
1)Very preppy
What do you expect from a wealthy New England private college, though? Preppy isn't a bad thing. I'm just not used to a preppy environment. I come from the West, so it was a bit of a culture shock for me.

2)It's located in Worcester...
Kind of a dirty city. Students rarely leave the campus grounds. (Except to go to the off-campus houses next door.) In reality, though, there's no reason to leave. Everything you need is right on campus. Also, there are shuttles for free every Fri and Sat that go to Providence, Boston, and the local mall.

3)Really challenging
At least, the pre med program is. I knew that HC was a very tough school academically, but I didn't realize how tough. I always considered myself a somewhat bright student (3.7 GPA in high school, ACT score of 30), but now I'm getting C's and B's despite 7 hours a day in the library. This could just be me, though. It could also just be my major. There are plenty of kids that are doing just fine academically.

4)It's fairly Conservative
Of course, this may be one of the very things that attracts you to the school. I assumed that it was a liberal college since it is an LAC, but I was wrong. Not that big of a deal, though. At least not for me.

All in all, I am very glad that I chose Holy Cross. I feel that it is a good fit for me. I hope this helped you out. BTW, what do you know what you plan on studying? Every school has its strengths and weaknesses in different subjects.

P.S.
I hope no one gets revved up by anything I have written. These are simply my own personal impressions of Holy Cross and I hope no one gets offended by some of my generalizations.

Pre-med....Quick question, did you have an interview before hand? If so, was it during the application process or before? I know some kid who did it during the summer but he said it was weird?

Right on. Well, many of my HC friends swear on their lives that one of the main things that got them in was either applying early decision or their interview. One of my roommates says that the school puts a LOT of emphasis on interest when it comes to accepting students.

I don't know about this year, but I remember last year you had to have your application in before December 10 at the latest if you wanted to request an interview. I barely got mine in by the due date, and about 2 weeks later I received an email saying that there were no interviewees near where I live but that it would be noted that I requested an interview. So I didn't apply early decision or get an interview. I had interviews for two other schools (Tufts and Georgetown) and neither of them were awkward. I've heard all interviews for colleges across the board are, for the most part, pretty similar. Maybe the kid that you know just happened to have a weird interviewer.
