I live in TX, where everyone goes all out. We have a spirit week. The majority has a date and the Friday before Homecoming, dates wear their mums and garters Texas big.

It’s kind of a big deal. It’s more a big deal for the people who are in the circles of football players and cheerleaders. They go to the game, then have the dance the next night.

I’m not going, never have. I’m not really much of a… school event kind of person.

My school does not have any dances aside from Senior Prom. Sometimes our school has clubs which facilitate dances, like our Red Cross club had a “Blackout Dance” or something in some venue in a bad neighborhood in Boston, and there was no way that I was going to get dolled up so I can board a public train to the inner city at night for lousy punch and crappy music.

Yeah, I’m not that big on school events either. I have never gone to the game. I’ve never actually gone to a football game. I went to the dance freshman and junior year.

We’ve had pretty nice themes though. Alice in Wonderland, Princess and the Frog, and Broadway. Didn’t go to Princess and the Frog.

We just have Homecoming and Prom. We tried to have a Mardi Gras Dance sophomore year to earn money for the Seniors’ Prom, but only 20 people bought tickets. There was an 80’s Dance freshman year, but that’s it.

…LOL I went to one football game Sophomore year, as it was for Breast Cancer Awareness (all the players wore pink on their uniforms) - and the proceeds from ticket sales went to a charity for Breast Cancer research. Me and a few girlfriends went, with no interest in the game, just so we could support the cause and check out the Senior QB (who was a very, very attractive fellow.)

My school also has a homecoming spirit week.
I have no idea how the game/dance is seen by the school because I’ve never gone. Almost everyone participates in the themes during the week though. Football is decidedly unpopular at my school.

@my88keys that is EXACTLY like my homecoming, especially the Texas mums and garters part xD I remember that they decided to put cowbells on the mums last year, and my Ethics teacher ran around one of the courtyards with a megaphone yelling MOOOO at all of the girls with their noisy mums. He was an interesting soul…

I am probably not going with anyone, because all of the guys I talk to are the stereotypically nerdy people who don’t go to school dances. I mean, I’m a total stereotypical nerd, but I still go to school dances because everybody says that I will regret it if I don’t. I almost regret going last year though, it was so full of drama. I’ll still go this year though…mostly because my mom is going to make me this super pretty dress

Haha… I don’t know if I’m the typical nerd. I don’t have many close guy friends, so I don’t really know if my whole “date dream” is going to happen.

And yes, the mums. It’s so depressing when you don’t have a date. I always told my friends that you can’t escape it. Even if you close your eyes, you can still hear the ringing of the bells.

Nobody cares, here. Our school spirit is severely lacking. We have a good range of sports programs, but our football team had a 6-year losing streak (including EVERY game, not just the Homecoming game) up until two years ago.

Our homecoming is a pretty big deal. Football is (over)emphasized at my school along with school spirit. We have a spirit week with different themes that a lot of people participate in (some people really go all out) and at the pep rally on Friday the students vote for the Spirit King and Queen. There also is the Homecoming Court with the King and Queen elected by the seniors that are announced during the football game on Friday night. Being in the band, I’ve been to every homecoming game for the past 5 years. Last year there was a homecoming dance (I couldn’t go because of a band competition) but I heard it wasn’t too phenomenal. I think I’ve done a couple of themed days, but nothing more than wearing a t-shirt that maybe fit the theme…

A school in my district had their homecoming dance with the lights on, and tables, with teachers on them, in the middle of the dance floor. This is because too many kids have “fun” on the dance floor.

At my school, about 8 used condoms (so I heard) were found during cleanup my freshman year.

At the other school, they had to take off tablecloths because kids were doing it underneath tables.

We have a homecoming court. For the first time, our homecoming prince and princess (juniors) and king and queen (seniors) were NOT football players or cheerleaders.

My school is in a farming town turned suburb town, so it’s basically high school football obsession. The team is treated like gods. The whole school puts on blue and gold, and the whole week is packed with spirit.

And I’m just standing around in my regular clothing, like IDGAF.

Haha… While the football team does get way more attention than other sports, most people in my school care more about the dance than the game. But that’s probably partly due to out losing streak.
