Hi College Confidential,

Homecoming is a little less than 2 months away for our school, and I would like a second opinion if this is a good way to ask a girl. I was planning on getting her a small Lilly Pulitzer cosmetic bag and sticking in a note inside, saying "I would "lilly" love it if you went to homecoming with me!"

Is this a cool and creative way to ask, or is it just over the top?

Thanks for your help!

I feel dumb but I don’t recognize that brand? How do you know about it?

And to answer your question, I would see that more like a prom proposal. Maybe save it then? I do think it’s creative, and very sweet of you:)

Instead of the bag maybe get her flower Lillies with a note somewhere that says that? But if you really want to give her the bag then do so. If I were the girl I would just feel a little spoiled hehe but appreciative

lovelyshores, here is a picture of it haha

It scares me that you know the exact brand name of a hand bag.

@vineyardvines I think that it depends on the girl; if she’s girly (which I’m guessing she is, if you’re taking this route) then by all means go for it. Best of luck!

@lovelyshores his username is vineyardvines… he’s all up in the brands…

In my opinion the bag is kinda ugly… maybe check out a local thrift shop and get something vintage. Most girls would like that a lot better unless she is super materialistic…

Either way I looked on the website and it says a ‘Lilly Pulitzer Wristlet’ is $48!!!
You could get 5+ bags at a thrift shop that are all way more attractive/durable/useful!!!

Don’t fall for the brand name, this must have cost less than 5 dollars to make.

I’m NOT trying to insult you, just guide you. Please look out of the bubble.

@Spiral7
I don’t get what his username stands for either lol. I don’t recognize that many brand names.

But now that I’ve seen that pic I think I do have that Lily bag. My mom gave it to me to store all my makeup. I didn’t know there was anything special about the brand though. I thought it was just another one of those bags you get for free when your mom buys anti-aging creams at Macys

@Spiral7 is it any better that it’s $5 on Amazon? lol.

@lovelyshores I wish I didn’t know about brands but they’re very popular at my school,
Vineyard Vines is like Abercromie/Hollister for High Schoolers. It’s very PREPPY! They even say that on their website. It’s all collars and stripes, and $$$$$. Their flip-flops are $30-$40!!! I can get them for $2…A belt is $50 and so is a tote!! ITS SOOOO RIDICULOUS PEOPLE WILL BUY THIS!!! 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-| 8-|

I can’t say I’m not guilty, but I agree with spiral… we have a dress code at our school, and it’s basically vineyard vines, brooks brothers, j.crew, and ralph lauren.

@vineyardvines It disgusts me how much people pay for these brands!! JUST to impress their friends? JUST because everyone is doing it? Ughhhh, it’s not just you vineyard… there are soooooo many preppy kids in america, I can’t wait till they hit the workforce and realized how many hours of work that dress costs… :)

If the girl you’re asking is a “girly girl,” I think it’s a good idea.

@Spiral7 There was a point that I realized that people that buy brand names are, to some extent, paying to advertise something with a high price, and often, low quality. That isn’t to say that I don’t pay attention to brands, I mean, personally I prefer Intel over AMD and Microsoft over Apple, though I suppose that’s different. As far as clothes and accessories go, “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” As long is it’s fine quality and I like the look, it shouldn’t matter.
