Hi everyone. I really want to have my homeroom teacher write me a letter of recommendation for college, because I know she will write me a great one. However, I have never had her for a class. I just see her every morning for less than 10 min for homeroom, so would colleges wonder why my homeroom teacher is writing one when I have not had her for a class before? I mean, she could not really say I have great grades in her class or that I was a good student or whatever since she never taught me; but, she could mention that I show good character, and she has access to my report cards and stuff and could mention that I make good grades in general. Anyways, any opinions on this?

I would strongly advise against doing this. If someone has never had you in an academic setting, then their opinion would not be as valid as someone who had. Although your homeroom teacher may know you well, it is absolutely a better idea to get your recs from academic teachers.

Take a look at the Common App form for teachers’ recommendations. What can she report about you academically, first-hand, not just from your report cards which will be reported on your transcript? How much of the ratings grid can she report about your academic performance? Yes, she can commend you for attendance and punctuality but that’s not what colleges are looking for.

Ok you guys are right. Thanks. I will ask someone else.
