I'm attending Phillips Academy Andover in the fall but am really worried about the workload. I come from a moderately competitive private school in manhattan (so perhaps I might be somewhat prepared?). But i always hear these stories of kids going to bed at like 1am and waking up at 5 am to finish their homework. Is it really that much?! Any advice would be great!

What school do you go to? I know the majority of the most elite NYC schools and I also have gamily members at Andover so if you pm me what school I can tell you

It really depends. If you’re the kid taking all AP courses and are a tri-varsity athlete, then chances are, you won’t get much sleep at all. But the homework load is supposed to be manageable for incoming freshmen.

I actually asked this same question at the Revisit day. Several of the juniors (freshmen) that I talked to said that they generally go to bed around 10 pm. Very rarely do they need to stay up later to get work finished. They almost never wake up early to get work done. Some students in Upper and Senior years do need to stay up later to complete their work, but it is rarely needed as a junior (grade 9).

No matter where you are coming from, adjusting to the pace of PA will be difficult. Just know that team Shuman picked you for a good reason. You can handle the work, it just will require some adjustment.

^I agree.
@eric99: congrats!!
