That's because SAT scores are relatively unimportant to UVa.

Then how do you explain why their so high?

Then how do you explain why their so high?

All I'm saying about the article is that newspapers like to actually sell their papers. They do this by writing shocking stories that will interest people. Desrcibing the trial of a girl who didn't get into her #1 choice even though she's in the top %1 of her class is shocking and may sell some papers. Blaming the reason she didn't get in on her failure to take an AP calculus class is even more shocking and may sell even more papers.

If you reveal she only scored a 1250 on her SATs, the story's not so shocking anymore.

If you read other sources on UVa admissions you will find that they don't place much emphasis on SAT's. I would explain it by saying that most people with the other things that UVa is intereted in (ie GPA) will often have higher SAT's. Though your point about shocking stories is well taken and probably true to an extent.

Also, most people who do well in highschool do well on their SATs. The no. 1 student in a high school class with 1000 on their SATs isn't as common as you'd think. Also, UVa is pretty rich, so I'd assume that most kids took SAT classes. Just because they don't place emphasis on them doesn't mean all of a sudden they're going to be horrible.

All I meant to say was that I don't think SAT scores are a deciding factor for UVa. As long as they're within the range, which dipped into the low 1200's on the old SAT's, I've heard they're a non-issue. Also I would suspect that there are not that many kids at here who took SAT classes, but who knows.

Alright well I'm kinda bored so I'm gonna post my stats.

You have good chances. I would say try to improve on your essays and SAT2.

Have you taken any AP/IB math classes? Because it would help.

thanks tennis craze, and yes, I took AP calc AB last year, but did not take the test, based on my midterm and final exam (which were based on past ap exams) my teacher said i probably would have had a 3, so a 3 really wouldn't have done much either way to affect my application, and rather than place out of calc in college, i would rather take it in college. I think I left out in my original post that I plan on majoring in economics.

Ok here's the update on my SAT2s
