oh...and SAT, which i'm really worried about. it's really hard too because i'm an asian and they expect the 800s, which i don't have.

math: 720 writing: 720 (essay 10) cr: 760
i think i will retake...those scores were all on my second sitting

subject tests: chem from sophomore year: 670 =( i didn't take it seriously
i just took math ii, lit, and history today..pretty confident on history and math and think i got killed by lit.

also taking ACTs next week.

please give me your honest opinions, suggestions, and/or thoughts! feel free to ask any questions!

haha i realized i posted it under the wrong topic

nvm! please offer any suggestions anyways!

Hey I took the same subject tests as you! hahahah.

Anyways, you look like you have a shot. Just make sure your teacher recs are steller and your essays rock.

ur a competitive applicant who has a decent shot. Thats the best anyone can really say.

radronOmega: haha did u take any today?? how did u do on lit? it was soo hard! well my forte is my writing, esp narrative, so i think as long as i think of something to write about i can do a pretty decent job. what about my scores??

Oh man, you sure stand out from other Asians, with your piano, tennis and mathematics xD Now if instead u played banjo, rugby, and was all around great in all subjects ;)

on a serious note, its all good...im sure youll get into most of the schools that you apply for (less its an ivy league which are always a bit unpredictable).

8.9% chance. You're qualified, but so are most of the 20,000 that apply.

bandit_TX: that's bs and you know it. How many of those 20k applicants are international-caliber pianists? With competitive SAT and absolutely amazing extracurriculars, I'd say great shot at all of them. I know much less amazing people who've gotten into Harvard and Princeton this year.

^ There are probably a good 20 of these applicants in that pool. Do admissions want every one all of them? Nope.

I think she's got a very good chance, especially at stanford.

btw, stanford doesn't do early action anymore.

are you sure about that? i could have sworn they still did.

by the way, i think you have a REALLY great chance. international awards are always a plus, and though you probably won't get into every college you apply to, i'm sure you'll get into at least one of the top ivies.

^ Yeah, Stanford still has EA, afaik.

Great chances. 50% chance EA.

you sound like a great student and you're really involved and all that good stuff but what makes you stand out? what makes you different? why should they pick you over the other 3,000 applications they'll get exactly like you?
that's the biggest question you have to answer.

well the reason i don't think i'm like a typical asian is that i'm actually a GOOD piano playing asian, and i'm pretty good in all subjects..i think my english teacher will write a really stellar rec though. what i'm tryin to bring out is that i don't just play the piano and do all these things, but i try to use my skills to help others such as playing and volunteering at senior homes and charity concerts, and so forth.
also, does it matther much that i'm freshmen, sophomore, and jr president? i dont think most asians do the whole student gov thing...

I'm a rising senior also, and I must say that I'm really impressed by your piano skills, haha. I think it's really clear where your passion is. Don't let the whole "stereotypical asian" thing get you down, because personally I think it's all bs. I think your SAT score is great, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. But of course, if you feel like you could improve then that's even better but the main thing is...don't get caught up with scores and numbers. You seem like a genuinely good person, active in the community and everything while maintaining really awesome grades. I think you have a great chance at Stanford. What do you want to major in?

PS - I'm half asian and I'm also in student govt. I think it IS a bit weird for asians to be in SGA because you wouldn't really expect that. I think that's really good because it shows that you're outgoing and a leader. But yeah just a last thought..

thanks a lot spiffystars!
i'm planning on majoring in international business. ..yah..definitely not medical lol.
where are you applying next year? yay to student govt! however...will it look bad if i'm not involved in student gov my senior year?? the problem is a combo of both scheduling issues (it's a year-round class at my school as well as much outside school commitment) and also the new student gov adviser who barely lets anyone do anything significant in the school anymore. all we are reduced down to is poster-making, which i think is bs. so i'm looking for other ways to help community next year like more volunteering and creating charity concerts b/c student gov is not going to do anything next yr

I'm applying to like 10 colleges next year, haha... it's a couple of ivies plus safeties for me like UNC-Chapel Hill and Amherst...lots of random colleges. I still have to finish doing research on them this summer so I can go ahead and start on my apps.

The charity concerts sounds like a good idea. Our student council does one called JamFest every year to help raise money for charities and it works really well...you just need to have bands from lots of different high schools to come and play for free.

I think colleges like to see consistency with leadership roles, so they COULD see it as a bad thing that you're not going to be in it but... as long as you make up for that with other things then I think it's fine. Maybe you could try finding a new advisor for student council? Or start a club or something.

well the thing is that my school hires the student gov advisor as the teacher in charge of all campus activities..so i don't much say in it. i just don't feel that i should be a part of something that will not do anything just for hte sake of being in it for one more year. i think i will organize more charity activities instead. good luck on all your colleges! r u applying to any early action>?

I see..but anyway I think colleges would see the whole charity organizing as a really great thing.
I'm applying to Yale EA I'm pretty sure...I probably won't get in though, but I fell in love with it when I visited and I would regret it forever if I didn't apply EA. :)
