honest reflection

idk, i worked my tail off, it just irritates me a lil when i see ppl making fun of me or berating me for choosing this school. I had wonderful stats and credentials, leading to acceptances at many top places (i.e. northwestern, chicago, rice, cornell, duke). What were your stats btw towerpumpkin?

Umm....1550/800/790/790, 4.6w/3.9uw (4/530ish) double legacy, a little leadership and a few dedicated clubs/sports...

"I had wonderful stats and credentials, leading to acceptances at many top places (i.e. northwestern, chicago, rice, cornell, duke)."

dude, you went to the best school in that bunch!! What are you complaining about? Duke is a good school, but it's slightly below Cornell....ask 20 people.

idk, i have been down lately, and i am just constantly thinking of "wat if this, wat if that." I mean, it is just eating away at me. When I was sending my deposit, i really was thinking about triple or double depositing to save me from this anxiety, but I decided against it--b/c of Cornell :P! (they said double depositing could lead to a rescinding of my acceptance).

o, btw, i don't know if this means anything, but i am a presidental research scholar.

if you want another honest opinion, i think you're spending way too much on these forums

interesting topic.

I put this up elsewhere but I feel that its appropriate to put here too:

All these which college is better posts remind me of a quote by Robert Kennedy about the economic statistic Gross National Product:

"The gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans."

Maybe we should remember this ideal when we talk about and try to compare different universities.

"The [US News Ranking/Matriculation Rate/Acceptance Rate/Insert Statistic Here] does not allow for the incredible times you'll have in college. It does not include what your creative potential will become, or whether or not you'll meet the love of your life during your four years and have a happy marriage. Nor does it reflect your current or future intelligence or integrity, nor that of any of the university's other students. It measures neither the friends you'll make; neither how hard you'll push yourself to learn and grow as a person; neither the memories of what potentially could be the best four years of your life; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes college worthwhile. And it tells us everything about [insert college here] except why you will be happy there, and what you will most treasure and remember."

Eh?

College is in a way the biggest and the smallest choice you'll ever make. The biggest because it certainly determines the course of your life, the smallest because it really doesn't change the person you are. If you are unhappy at Cornell, its likely that you would probably be unhappy at Duke too. Most of what makes a person happy or sad comes from within them and not from outside them. What's more important, what will have a WAY bigger impact on your life, is who you marry. So good luck at Cornell.

this is dumbest discussion ever, you are comparing apples and apples

and college kid, believe me there are plenty of people at cornell that got into northwestern, U of Chicago, etc. which are certainly not any better. Secondly, if you are having this buyer's remorse then you shouldn't be going to cornell, give up ur spot to someone else who would die to get into this incredible institution. there are people wiht 1500s this year and tops in their classes that were rejected and you are regretting atttending an ivy league institution because you have this complex - you are whacked. Cornell is one of the top schools in the country and you should spend your time putting another school down, not your own.

HAHA that's great...

Yea i hope this kid is not in my fraternity or its gona be bad

oh and one more thing, I can't wait till this kid sees hes prob not even in the top 50% of the kids at cornell intelligence wise, that will bring his ego down a few notches. I was valedictoiran it was a shocker, believe me

i hope i never see u, b/c ur a real jerk to be honest with you. What gives u the right to put me down b/c i said i had some doubts about my decision. I guess i am the only real man here who can admit their honest feelings and not give a line of b.s. to hide it. That is why i don't go around saying Cornell is better than x, y, z or duke is better than a, b, c, b/c there is no pt in doing that. Everyone who does that including Slipper and DEVIL MAY CRY and all of the other big head honchos here are honestly just feeding in their own need to stifle their doubts.

"That is why i don't go around saying Cornell is better than x, y, z or duke is better than a, b, c, b/c there is no pt in doing that."

Check your first post again. You synthesized this thread with the singular purpose of validating your own (now ambivalent) choice. Frankly, this meek attempt at "being real" only seems all the more ersatz and dubious because of your past history of trying to inflate your own security by questioning the merit of other schools (vis-a-vis "I didn't know Duke was so prestigious!") That is your ploy, is it not?

"I guess i am the only real man here who can admit their honest feelings and not give a line of b.s. to hide it."

I know. Your feelings are painfully transparent.

"Everyone who does that including Slipper and DEVIL MAY CRY and all of the other big head honchos here are honestly just feeding in their own need to stifle their doubts."

See, this is where my problem with you stems. I venture onto a board writhed with baseless bias in order to laud your decision to pick such a fine institution. I even attempt to subside your doubts and reassure you that you made the right choice. Ironically, the Duke board has been even more benign than your own.

Stifling my doubts? May I ask what this thread was dedicated to do? :)

devil, basically i lauded u as a "head honcho," basically its a compliment, nothing bad was meant or intended. I respect u a whole lot. Sorry if my comment was harsh, but it wasnt intended.

Collegekid, my respect for you was never in question. You seem much more talented than I am and I think you can be succesful at any one of these schools. Try not acquiesce to fear considering as how you have a long (and since you're a cornellian...arduous :)) road ahead of you. Again, you will be fine. Just wear a sweater. :)

Sports684's at the top of his class?

Considering he can't even spell "valedictoiran" correctly, I find this very hard to believe.

My sentiments exactly.

the kid is a f---ing jerk.
