Okay so I'm currently a freshman at my local community college. I earned 15 hours last semester and was registered for another 15 this semester but had to drop 2 courses earlier this month because of emergency financial situations in my family. So I got the ok to add one more class this semester which will bring my total hours by the end of this semester to 23 hours! I need 30 transfer to the University I want to attend for Fall 2013. I will take a science class (4credits) and one of my history courses (3credits) in the summer time to bring my total to 31. But by the time my summer classes in the month of June have finished, it would be too late to send my updated transcripts for admission for Fall 2013. Correct? Anyone ever experienced this? Thanks.

I don’t have experience with this, but you could send an e-mail to the admissions office of the university you’re trying to transfer to. It should be okay, since they should at least know you are taking the courses over the summer.

Yeah you are screwed. They look at your spring semester prior to the upcoming Fall of 2013. They won’t count your summer coursework because of the scenario that you might fail or drop a class etc.

Just call/email the college and ask.

Like people were saying above, call and ask. Nothing can hurt your chances worse than not calling at all.

That’s true, I’ll be calling first thing in the morning. Thank you for your responses!

I guess my confusion is simply because if one were to drop their summer classes couldn’t they simply revoke acceptance to the school? Also I’m wondering if I were to do a mini-mester which is provided at school. If I did that my classes would be done within the first two weeks of the summer instead of at the end of June. I’m still gonna call in the morning just to see. Like you all have said it wouldn’t hurt to just check.

Yes they can, just the way they can rescind admissions if spring sem coursework in not completed in a satisfactory fashion.

Bump^^ just for anymore guesses until I hear back from the admissions office. :)

If I had to guess, I’d say that as long as you earn the credits prior to enrollment, you’d be fine.

It’s just a guess though. Hopefully admissions gets back to you soon

That was my guess as well. I thought this would be a common occurrence but I’ve searched all over for an answer and haven’t found one so I guess it’s not as common. The admissions office said they’re experiencing high volume right now and they’ll get back to me asap. Fingers crossed!

Did they get back to you? Just curious, as I’m in a similar position myself.

Update: so they got back to me and unfortunately they cannot accept summer school credits because they make their decisions well in advance so I was advised to wait until Spring and transfer. Kind of sad but one more semester isn’t bad. And I would definitely check with the specific school if you’re in the same situation, it could definitely vary school to school. Call and double check.

I figured. So they told you to apply for spring transfer? Because most schools are not accepting application for the spring.
