These USC supplements are EXTREMELY similar and I'm having a tough time distinguishing any real difference between the two. Any ideas?

Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections (250 word limit).

Explain your educational and career interests and why Annenberg is the best match for you. (250 word limit)

(Annenberg is the School of Comm/Journalism that I'm applying to there)

I am in the same boat as you. I also need help differentiating between the two.

Personally (this is really just spit balling here), I think the Annenberg statement is the same as the USC statement except more specific to Annenberg. For example you would put in you USC statement how much you love USC’s research opportunities. In the Annenberg statement you would state SPECIFICALLY what research opportunity Annenebrg offers that you would like to take advantage of.

I’m not applying to USC but from what I can tell, the first essay should be discussing the specific areas of academia that you are most engaged in: say you love Creative Writing and that’s your first-choice major. You would discuss what you’ve done in creative writing already, why it interests you, and how you would continue on that path at USC. For prompt 2, it is more about AFTER USC. What do you want to do with your life/career, and how can the Communications and Journalism school get you there? Continuing with the creative writing example, say you wanted to write short stories and fiction when you’re older. Instead of talking about why that interests you and what you will do at USC in relation to that field (like in the first prompt), you should talk about what you want to do and how the education you receive at USC will help you with that.
