I've recenetly been admitted to the pre-admit program of Ross. Should I still apply for the Honors program, or is it really not necessary?

What are your thoughts on this?

I've recenetly been admitted to the pre-admit program of Ross. Should I still apply for the Honors program, or is it really not necessary?

What are your thoughts on this?

Wow I was going to ask the exact same question.

Someone said it would take an extra year to graduate. Another person said that in your sophomore year you basically transferred out of LSA Honors so it doesn’t really matter.

"I got accepted to the Honors program for this fall and I say you have a pretty good chance of getting accepted if you write a good essay for the Honors application. Also, you can participate in both Ross and Honors, but that route will add an extra year to your college life…not really worth it. Good Luck! "
"And yes, I think you would have to pay another full year of tuition if you did Honors AND Ross. Like I said, it’s not worth it. "

“1. Being LSA Honors and Ross does not require an additional year. When you transfer to Ross, you are no longer in LSA Honors”

Worth it for the housing.

Being LSA Honors and Ross does not require an additional year. When you transfer to Ross, you are no longer in LSA Honors. This is the correct answer.

It isn’t necessary to be in LSA Honors if you have a pre-admit to Ross and plan to attend but I don’t think this is the question you should be asking. Ask yourself if LSA Honors is something that you want to be a part of even if it is only until the time that you transfer into Ross.

LSA Honors offers a different curriculum from the standard LSA. You would be in the Great Books course for English rather than the standard Freshman writing class. Does this appeal to you. There are also Honors courses (some are separate class other than separate discussion sections). The Honors courses are often more difficult. Sometimes the grading scale is more lenient but not always.

The Honors program is also a smaller subset of the overall LSA program and will have some of the same effect of a smaller university. There is separate advisors, Honors housing and extracurricular events for students in the Honors Program.

If you change your mind and elect not to attend Ross, will you want to be in the Honors Program in LSA? Often students change their plans once they arrive at Michigan.

If this does not appeal to you, I would not sign up for the Honors Program. If you gradutate with a BBA from Ross, it will not matter to other people whether you were in the Honors Program but there is more to college than what other people think of your degree.

Ah alright, I actually have no “intellectual curiosity” for anything besides business/finance, but nevertheless, the housing and the exclusive extracurricular events sounds pretty good to me. I guess I’ll apply Honors then thanks!

I went to the Ross visit day last Friday and Michael Kamen (Director of the UG Admissions) said it wasn’t worth it. He said that he had nothing against it but you will not be graduating with an Honors degree like those in the Honors Program will be. You’d be graduating with BBA so… it’s not really worth it. But he did say that you could always graciously bow out of Honors after your freshmen year and he said people have def done it before :)
