Honor Courses vs. AP Courses

Hi, I have a question about taking either/or honors classes and AP classes. Since I am a upcoming Junior and I will be taking 4 Honor Courses and 1 AP class. Freshman and Sophomore year, I took a mix of Honor classes and regular classes. But since I’m not really looking at top colleges, mainly just normal 4-year universities, I don’t know if the level of courses I’m taking this year is impressive? Please offer any comments/feedback on the level of my courses I’m taking, thank you.

Depends on what the options are.

In general, you want to continue a progression in each subject:

English: typically, there is a set sequence, with honors and/or AP options at each level.
Math: follow the standard sequence (although you may be advanced by one or more years); honors options may be available, and AP would be for calculus (note: AP statistics should be considered a side-track elective)
Science: commonly, you would take biology, chemistry, and physics, and then an elective of AP science
Social studies: AP courses may be options for the typical ones (e.g. AP US history versus regular US history)
Foreign language: follow the standard sequence, which may have honors options; you may see AP options at level 4 or 5
Art or music: you may see AP options here

You may also have space for academic electives, such as AP courses in statistics, computer science, environmental science, psychology, etc…

Others can help you better if you describe the standard progressions in your school and what honors and AP options there are.
