I am a Freshmen in high school and I have a quick question:
Is getting into National Honor Society more prestigious than getting into Science Honor Society (I’m planning to major in Science in college)? Would National Honor Society get me more recognition in college?
I’m in the NHS chapter at my school now, though my school doesn’t have a Science Honor Society. What I think NHS is almost a given for many applicants to higher colleges. I believe Science Honor Society could put you slightly apart maybe or at least demonstrate your interest better.
In the end nitpicking the honor society you join sounds somewhat silly as colleges probably won’t put immense weight on your membership in either unless you actually do something significant in one or the other. Still, I’d recommend Science Honor Society over NHS.
What you do NOT want to do is pay $60 to become a member of the NSHSS… you see their bumper stickers all the time.
They’re an “Honor Society” that invites members to join with no input from their schools. That’s right-- they have absolutely no idea of your grades or anything else-- other than what grade you’re probably in. Please, oh please, do NOT send them money!!!
That said, why are you choosing one real honor society over another-- why not simply be in both?
