My son has received two packages from organizations claiming to offer him memberships in their organizations due to his ranking in the class and his grades. The two organizations are Golden Key International Honour Society and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Are these organizations legitimate? Will being a member help him by listing them on his resume?
My son received a number of these. Are they legitimate? I suppose. The question is, what is the perceived value to be received by paying the one-time membership fees? Will listing membership on a resume help? I personally doubt it. Listing GPA, relevant coursework, and any course citations received shows the same achievement. Listing ANY relevant internships or work experience would far outweigh the benefit of listing a pay-to-play ‘honor society.’
We skipped all of those invitations.
