Honors Calc 285

285= Honors Calc III
Anyone else taking this class in the fall?
How difficult will it be?
I'm gonna be a freshman and i got fives on both ab/bc exams.

What's the difference between this and 295?

my understanding was that 295 was 285+additional theoretical material

i personally would take either calc 2 honors or calc 3. It may be a little difficult competing with the math majors/sophomores in honors. It may also be time-consuming, and as a freshman, you should give yourslef a more relaxing schedule.

"my understanding was that 295 was 285+additional theoretical material"

Dear god, no. There's absolutely no overlap.

"i personally would take either calc 2 honors or calc 3. It may be a little difficult competing with the math majors/sophomores in honors. It may also be time-consuming, and as a freshman, you should give yourslef a more relaxing schedule."

Honors Calc 3 is graded easier than Calc 3, isn't it? It just depends on whether you're smart enough to understand the material to actually get something out of it, as is with most honors classes.

any opinions on calc I regular versus calc I honors? which one has a better curve?

"Honors Calc 3 is graded easier than Calc 3, isn't it? It just depends on whether you're smart enough to understand the material to actually get something out of it, as is with most honors classes."

^yes, more people get As in Honors Calc 3, but as you said, if you don't understand it, you probably won't succeed. As for why I really recommend it, its mostly because its going to be challenging unless you already took Calculus 3. Calc 3 honors is sequential to Calc 2 honors (Math 185), and Math 185 is not just BC Calculus but a couple weeks more than that.

As for Calc 1 vs calc 1 honors, take calc 1 honors unless you really can't handle it. Calc 1 honors definitely has a better curve, and its not too hard.

It's also much harder to actually fail an honors class. As in a B- is what you get if you "fail."
