Honors Carolina-

My son was admitted EA and received an invitation to Excel@Carolina. Unfortunately, he missed the letter somehow. Then gmail put the Excel@Carolina emails into a spam folder and he didn't see them. He finally discovered the invitations on Feb 23d and was able to submit the Excel@Carolina online survey form. The admissions people said they would accept his late submission of his Excel@Carolina form, but I wonder if he has missed the boat.

Does anyone know the schedule for UNC to notify students that they are invited to Honors Carolina?
Are there two rounds of invitations?
Do they notify both with a letter and email?
Does anyone know when the last round of Honors Carolina invitations will be sent?
Does an invitation to Excel@Carolina mean much with respect to the chances of receiving an honors invitation?

His scores.SAT Math 800, Reading 760, 3.9GPA UW, 4.8 W.

I found another post which indicates that UNC may have already sent invites for the second round. Any insight?

February 6: "And about Excel, I emailed the honors carolina people and this is what they said: "Invitations to Honors Carolina are issued in two rounds. While you did not receive an invitation during our first round, it is possible that you will receive an invitation when the second round of letters goes out in mid-February. However, if you do not receive in invitation at that time either, please know that you can still enroll in honors courses (they are opened to all first-semester students on a space available basis with about 20% of the enrollments going to students not yet in the program). You can also apply to join Honors Carolina in January of your first year. We will take another 75 or so students at that point, judging applicants on the difficulty of their schedule, their GPA, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and their own essay explaining their interest in joining."

Thanks, ya'll.

My son received an invite to Excel Carolina during the “first round”. He indicated Honors Carolina as one of his first choices, and was notified earlier this week by mail and email that he was selected to Honors Carolina. I think you have to be first selected for Excel Carolina and then once you indicate an interest in Honors Carolina, you may or may not receive an invitation to join.

@porico why not ask UNC admissions your questions? Honestly, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over acceptance into Honors Carolina given that he can still take honors classes and can apply for admission once he gets here. Several of the other Excel@Carolina opportunities (like pre-admits and funded offers) are one-shot opportunities. It would be much more unfortunate to miss one of those if he has any interest.

@Mocha99, can you tell me when your son received his Excel@Carolina letter, and when he submitted his online survey to Excel Carolina?

He got the Excel@Carolina letter on Jan 31st, oddly it came before his admission packet arrived. He replied on or around February 10th, and got his acceptance to Honors Carolina letter early this week (got an email day before letter arrived.) The original letter said he would hear something by April 15th. Hope that helps!
