Honors classes

My son is planning on applying to bama as a engineering student. He has the grades and the act score to apply to the honors program. Are the classes in the honors program for the freshmen and sophomore years smaller in size or is that just in junior/senior level classes. Can someone clarify that for me?

Hi and welcome!

What is your son’s ACT score? Is he instate or OOS?

Anyway… :)

Are you asking about Honors College classes for the University Honors Program (UHP)? Those are limited to 15 students per class. And, those are all UHP classes.

There are also some honors classed offered by the dept of Engineering , but dept honors classes are larger.

Typically upper division courses in one’s major are not large… Upper division Engineering courses aren’t usually honors classes because by that time, everyone in the major is a well-qualified student.

And, labs are usually always small…like 20-25 kids.

32 and OOS. He is applying to Ark, OU, OSU and Alabama. He would like to be in smaller classes so that’s why I was asking about the honors program. We will be visiting next month.

Ok…so he’d get free tuition and 2500 per year. :)

He’d also be a good candidate for the Computer-based Honors Program…20 kids per class for that.

*We will be visiting next month. *

Do you know when you’d be visiting?

If you decide to visit Bama, this is what you need to do…

set up a campus tour time online…try for the early morning one.
