Honors Classes?

Hey, people, it's my first post...so, let me brief you on my school...it's filled with kids who don't care about their grades, slack off, and do everything to be bad. But, I'm not like that, I care about my grades...

So, last year I was in Honors classes of Biology, Civics/World Geography, and English. I finished the year with these grades:

Honors World Geography: 95
Music Theory: 84
Honors 9th Grade English: 98
Math I: 97
Honors Biology: 92
Beginning Piano: 98
Spanish I: 100
Personal Fitness: 81

Unweighted: 3.8 GPA
Weighted: 3.9 GPA
Average %: 93

So, I'm a good student. I want to be in Honors classes next year, but my sophomore schedule has only Honors Math and Spanish. I was put in standard English, World History, and Chemistry. I NEED at least Honors English, because 9th Grade English was WAY WAY WAY too easy. With my grades, I think I deserve to at least be in Honors English and World History, and maybe even Honors Chemistry...I don't know how to approach my counselor about this, so please help me! Thanks!

Your grades are definitely decent enough to get you into the honors track. Simply show your counselor your transcript and persuade him/her that you deserve to be in it. It might help to prepare reasons beforehand on why you should be allowed.

seriously? you get to ask to be put into hard classes?
i get forced whether i like the idea of being put in or not.

it’s pretty easy, just make your case to him/her. they might seem a bit scary to talk to, but they’re actually there to help you. aeroengineer couldn’t have said it in a more eloquent manner. :]

btw, just judging from your user name: aren’t you excited about that new harry potter movie! july 15th! i personally cannot wait.

You don’t know how excited I am, phludorian…lol…

Wait. So you don’t get to choose your own classes PotterFan1029?
I would definitely talk to your counselor. There really is no reason why you can’t take it.

I don’t really, they just put you in classes…but if I have an objection I can sort it out with my counselor…

What does everyone else think?

personal fitness and music theory…what happened?

^ lol

.

Music Theory- I flunked the midterm, which was a double grade, but aced with a near-perfect score the final exam, which, of course, was a single grade

Personal Fitness- Out for 3 weeks because of tonsils, he wouldn’t let me make up stuff…

Boo the Harry Potter movie. It should have been out in November. It’s been sitting there completely edited since October. >_<

Anyways… Just call up your school, ask to meet with the guidance counselor. Meet with the guidance counselor. Ask to be placed in harder classes and if need be show your grades and say that you know you can handle it.

Well, we’re on summer vacation now, and the school is being renovated lol…but I am gonna do something about this once school starts…

???

???

//You fail at life.//

I concur.

What could I say to my counselor?

Tell them that you’re more physically fit than the numbers indicate. Or bring in some weights and demonstrate. You know, bicep curls, jumping jacks, the works.

lol ok hahaha

PotterFan1029, it’s called sarcasm. Do you get on the internet often?

And wow, your school’s a bit crazy if you can’t decide your own honors courses. And you’re lucky too that it’s so easy to get a high GPA. That’s nearly impossible at my school.

Just make your case. Obviously, your grades warrant it.

Are you sure none of the counselors are working this summer? Call the school district and make sure because they may be working in another location while your school is being renovated. Seriously, every school I know of have hs counselors at least part time even the little small schools because they have tons of paperwork to finish on their seniors and then get the new schedules and move up the 8th graders.

With all your 90’s, you should be in all honors. Don’t let them mess you over. Get up there in person (a phone call isn’t assertive) and demand those classes. Take a parent with you. Here, just seeing a parent walk in the door gets their attention. Don’t take no for an answer.
