<p>I was just accepted to the UMD Honors College and I was wondering what everyone else admitted thinks about it. What are the major prestige differences within the Honors LLPs?</p>

<p>Wait is honors better than scholars? It seems like people are getting accepted into either one but not both so one must be better?</p>
<p>Honors is more academically driven in it’s admissions than scholars. It is generally harder to get into stats-wise, but not necessarily “better” than scholars. Scholars is more based around community and that kind of stuff. </p>
<p>I got into honors as well OP, pretty excited about it. We get separate housing if we choose as well as some of our own classes and a nice addition to our resume. There isn’t a huge difference in prestige between the honors LLP’s I don’t think, but Gemstone is generally one of the more, if not most, highly regarded LLP’s. It’s based around interdisciplinary research. The others are a bit more self-explanatory except for University Honors which is kind of a catch-all LLP. When do we find out/choose our LLP?</p>
<p>Ahh okay cool. When you choose your LLP do they have to “admit” you into the program? Or is it more like first come first serve lol</p>

It looks like you have to “apply” to an LLP though through order of preference. Even though I’m in Computer Science, University Honors is the most appealing to me :P</p>

<p>That’s what I was thinking, in looking at the courseload, but if I’m hoping to double major in anthropology and criminal justice, plus do NROTC, should I maybe do the Honors Humanities?</p>

<p>If you mean where it tells you if you got in, it’s right in the first paragraph of the letter online.</p>
<p>After everyone puts in their preferences, they officially assign the Honors programs. Most of them are pretty guaranteed that you’ll get whatever you want most. Unless they’ve changed it, you can weight which one you want most, you’ll have like 100 points to assign, so if say you want to do Humanities really badly, you can assign 90 points to that and 10 to your second choice. The only one that you might not get in is Gemstone, but it would depend how many wanted it vs. how many spots there are. But if you really, definitely want Gemstone, put 90 points (I think that’s the max because you need a second choice) on it. Then you should have a good chance.</p>
<p>Personally, I am in University Honors. It is very flexible, and there are some really cool Honors Seminars. Living in the honors dorm was fun. No matter what program you’re in, you’ll live with that program. It’s a good community feeling. I’d advise everyone to poke around the Honors website a lot and see which program interests you the most. You can also check out the Honors Seminars offered in the past if you’re looking at University Honors. Most of them have big descriptions.</p>

<p>Honors is definitely merit based, because we get considered for the full ride scholarship!!!</p>

<p>Not that I’m aware of. The Life Sciences one is in its first year and it’s the second year of the Digital Cultures and Creativity and the Entrepreneurship ones, so those are the most recent additions. I haven’t heard bad things about any of them though.</p>
