If you were accepted or rejected to the Honors College at LSU, please post your stats. (ACT/SAT and GPA). When doing your ACT scores, please post each section if your remember it. (English, Math, Reading, and Science).

I was unfortunatly rejected. But I have considerably raised my ACT score and am considering reapplying. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time.

Thanks for your help guys. I really am determined to get into the Honors College!

I’ve liked it. It’s worth it if you get in.

The scheduling perks are nice. I have enjoyed some of the special topic HNRS 2013 classes (Lit. of Modern Warfare and Modern Moral Philosophy, though they change every semester), which are better than taking the non-honors equivalent (I wouldn’t say easier though). For the most part I enjoyed all of my departmental honors professors.

I’m debating right now whether to go through and graduate with honors. I’ve completed two Honors Option courses, but still have to do 2 more Honors option courses, in addition to 2 thesis courses. I like the research that I do, I just don’t know if I will feel like sitting down and writing a 30+ page paper in the next year.

Thanks for the post, Sleepy. You applied as a LSU freshmen after your first semester? Or did you apply as an incoming freshmen? You said December but I’m not sure if you meant Early Decision.

Sorry for the confusion. I am a high school senior who applied as an incoming freshman. I will be starting this fall. It’s my high school that doesn’t weight GPA.

ACT:
English 35
Math 34
Science 33
Reading 32
Composite 34

UW- 3.54 or something
Weighted- 4.17 at something at top public school in Illinois
LSU gave me a 3.87 or 3.89 weighted, one of those with their calculations

I also had 8 AP’s, with 5 5’s and 3 4’s on those…

I don’t even think of it as an Honors college. I view it more as a program where you take honors classes. But it’s not like it feels like a separate college within a college…

My guess is they only look at core classes- math, science, history, English, etc. I highly doubt they’ll care about that A in PE. They might also weigh AP and honors classes.

Will the admissions staff tell you your LSU GPA? I’d be rather curious to know mine.

The thing is, my school doesn’t weight GPA as a rule, but offers all its classes on the college level. I have taken things like Physics III, Calculus II, World War II History, and Modern Presidential Politics that would be AP classes at most schools. If these classes were weighted, it might be possible I could have a 4.0 weighted and qualify for another $1000/more a year in merit.

That sucks, Sleepy. It’s almost like you are being punished for taking harder courses. I took an AP and made a C my first semester. D:

It took a toll on my GPA. I wish my school weighed the GPA as well. I ended making a 3 on the AP exam. So thats good enough for LSU I think. Do you know what they accept? The class was US History.

I will call the school tomorrow. One, to find out if they can tell me my LSU GPA. And two, to ask if I can reapply to the Honors College. I will let you know how it goes.

stevped, Did you ever find out how LSU weights the high school GPA’s? All I could find on their website is that they only take into consideration core classes and that they do weight honors/AP/IB classes, but it does not say how much weight they give.

I explained my situation to someome over the phone in the admissions office. She said that they take the GPA that the high school sends. I’m not sure if she completly understood my question. I would try calling the honors college directly. Please post here once you do.

Emory, I cannot believe that. You got robbed.

I have a feeling they just kind of make a GPA up based on the information they are given. You will find out that the people you talk to are fairly incompetent. It really doesn’t matter exactly what they weight your GPA as.

what are my chances? I have a 3.48 UW. i have a 3.78 W (on LSU’s scale) I have a 29 ACT. I have a 31 on the English section, a 35 on the Math section, and an 8 out of 12 on the Writing section. I am in the top 25% of my class. I took World Geo Honors, Algebra 2 Honors, English 1 Honors, and Biology 1 Honors in 9th grade. I took Civics/Free Enterprise Honors, Calculus AB AP, English 2 Regular, French 3 Honors, and Chemistry Honors in 10th grade. I took American History Honors, Discrete Math Honors, Physics 1 Honors, and English 3 Honors in 11th grade. I play tennis and violin competitively. I am ranked in the state of Louisiana. I also won the 2010 Louisiana Junior Team Tennis Championships. I was in the 2009-2010 All-State Orchestra. I am also planning to try out for the 2010-2011 All-State Orchestra. I also won the 2010 Yale Science and Engineering Award. I also won at Science Fairs and Mu Alpha Theta Competitions. I am in clubs such as Mu Alpha Theta, Science Club, National Honors Society, Interact Rotary Club, Indian Student Association, Habitat for Humanity, and International Cultural Association. I could not fit any AP classes into my schedule in my junior year so I couldn’t take any. And since I am autistic and have ADHD, I couldn’t perform to my academic potential for my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. I had broken my arm in the ninth grade,my grades fell and I couldn’t take notes and everything just went downhill after that. A symptom of autism is that it’s harder to relax and perform to your academic potential. I learned that later on and I changed it. I am also going to be taking AP exams in Calculus BC and Chemistry? What are my chances at the LSU Honors College? Can dealing with my disability be a hook factor?

I got accepted with an ACT composite of 30 (32 E, 29 M, 31 R, 29 S) all you have to do is mark on your application that you are interested, and as long as you meet their minimums, you should have no issues. Or at least that’s what I’ve thought. I dunno what happened to the guy with a 34…
