Question, for those who know anything about the honors program: Is the workload significantly larger? I want to be in the honors program, but I went through hell in IB with the work I had to do and I want to be able to have plenty of time to participate in extracurricular activities and be part of the social scene (Not greek, but I don’t want to have to spend every night studying).

“I went through hell in IB with the work I had to do and I want to be able to have plenty of time to participate in extracurricular activities and be part of the social scene”

Haha, this made me laugh. Couldn’t agree more. If someone does have knowledge of how rigorous the honors program is from the student’s perspective please share.

I’m not in it, but my girlfriend is.

Basically, you take I think either 15 or 18 credits of “honors” courses to graduate with Honors. Those could be classes like History of Animation, which is only open to Honors students, or they could be the Honors sections of a class like Gen Chem. There’s also a mandatory Honors Colloquium one semester, which is pretty much a joke.

If you survived IB, trust me, Honors is a cakewalk normally. From the few classes I took where there was an Honors section, usually the difference is an extra paper or maybe a presentation or something. But in general, Honors is a cakewalk compared to IB. A few Honors-only classes might be more difficult (I believe the History of Animation class has a few longer papers you have to write). I survived IB as well, but didn’t go into Honors at FSU, and I’ve noticed that it’s generally regarded by many people as being pretty easy.

You can generally find out the info on the Honors program’s requirements at www.honors.fsu.edu but I think this page does a reasonably good job of explaining a lot of it: http://honors.fsu.edu/honors_medallion.html

Thanks for the info, Pasbal

Don’t be nervous. Really, there isn’t much to be nervous about. Except of course, surviving the Meteorology program at FSU.

I got in!
4.7 weighted
3.9 unweighted
2210 superscored SAT
and I’ll have my AA in June.

Understatement of year. Met is a tough major. Typically met grads wind up with a math minor without trying.

Congrats to those who were accepted! My daughter just completed her 1st semester as an honors student and has loved the distinction and all of the perks that go along with it; especially housing in Landis, registering for spring classes the same time as seniors, and being surrounded by people who take their education seriously. You will also get to enjoy the new Honors building set to open next fall. One bit of advice, take an honors FIG (freshman interest group) when you register for classes. It’s a pretty unique program at FSU and has been the best decision my daughter made for class choice. You’ll find out more at orientation. Good luck!
