I was automatic admit, top 1%. And yes, as a dean’s scholar.

Congrats, Lizabet!

My senior also received an acceptance letter from Dean’s Scholars (it was dated 12/19). Our Texas HS doesn’t rank, so holistic review candidate. Curiously, this is the only admission response received from UT to date–nothing on “regular” admission (UT’s online application tracker still says “app is under review” or similar).

Good luck to all waiting for an answer.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted!

Would you mind saying when you submitted your application? I am just wondering if those getting their letters now were the ones who submitted early. Thanks.

Yes, please, let us know when those of you who have been accepted to Dean Scholars applied … Thx!!

App was submitted 11/30–it probably fell on top of the heap. ;)

@TXArtemis: Super congrats to you D! Well done. So, the letter was dated Dec. 19th. When did you receive it?

…anxiously awaiting a decision from UT for my S.

@eaglemom10, not sure when 12/19 acceptance letter was delivered via snail mail, as we were traveling over the holidays and discovered it on our return. Wow, I just looked at the calendar and note the 19th was a Sunday…those admission teams sure work hard! Good luck to your S. Waiting is so hard!

My D did not get a DS letter either eagle. Her app was in for DS, Nov 1, and we contacted them Dec 5 to remove her name from the Medical Honors program because of her Plan II acceptance. (you can’t do both programs) so because DS and Medical are linked I don’t know if she got moved to the back of the pack or it will just not be a good result. The saving grace is that she has Plan II and that is the most important to her.

@collegeshopping: it was a long shot for my son given that his catholic prep school is highly competitive and being in the top 8% means being one of the top 8 students. He’s wanting a career in teaching and research and that seemed like a fit for DS but if class rank is their first criteria, he won’t make it. He can participate in the freshman research program at TAMU for lower cost. Everything will work out for the best. :)

Eagle- your son should look at the Freshman Research Initiative at UT. He does not have to be in DS to do this. And unlike many other Honors Programs, he has the opportunity to transfer into DS after he arrives. The FRI is suppose to be one of the best in the country.

@collegeshopping: thanks. If he gets admitted to UT, he will apply for the FRI.

Does anyone know if Dean’s Scholars has sent out all their acceptance letters? I know that some DS accepted applicants are invited to a scholarship day in January (or at least they have been in the past), so I don’t know if those who have received their letters are just the ones in the scholarship group, or if all acceptance letters have been sent out.

BTW, I heard that DS chooses applicants based almost solely on the essays and LORs. Most applicants are so close in their basic credentials (GPA, scores, rank, ECAs) that those are not as important. If they find an applicant with great essays & a strong LOR, then they will be selected as long as they meet basic standards. Now, what constitutes great essay is open to interpretation, but they know what they are looking for.

What is “LORs.” ??? Love of Research? Love of Researchers? …mind block …

Letter of Recommendation :)

Major mind fog… Thanks!!

UltimateNut, our Dean’s Scholars acceptance letter says nothing about a scholarship day; but we didn’t apply for any scholarships.

I wouldn’t think they’ve completed the application review process. It’s been rolling in past years and continued to at least January. I can’t remember whether DS admissions extended into February before. I assume we’ll know when the process has been completed when people report receipt of denial letters. 'Til then, remain hopeful!

i received my acceptance to dean’s scholars around the 23rd, and it’s also dated to the 19th. i didn’t have an information on the january scholarship thing either.

based on what i heard, dean’s scholar is heavily reliant on research experience/appreciation for science.

I heard that at least some of those who had already been accepted received a separate letter in January inviting them to a special scholarship day. This happened in past years, but I have no idea if it will happen this way again.

I have also heard that research exp/sci appreciation is critical to being accepted.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

@justanotherface: Are you from Texas? What was your rank? If you don’t mind sharing your stats, that would help. Thanks

thanks, ultimatenut!
