Hello all. Quick question regarding honors program selection. My DS applied to Baylor in Oct and was accepted earlier this month. He was also asked to the November i2e event along with the Baylor2 medical event held the same weekend. He sent his Honors app in on October 15th. I noticed that many students at the i2e were already discussing their acceptance into an honors program, and my DS’s girlfriend has also received notification that she has been accepted (English major), as well.
Does anyone here have a time frame on how acceptance for honors at Baylor works? Are some majors accepted more quickly? Should I be concerned that he hasn’t heard anything yet, given its been a month and others are being accepted?
BU typically sends honors notices within a few weeks of submission, but immediately after the EA deadline, things move a little more slowly due to the volume of candidates. I believe they send notices whether positive or negative so no news at the moment may not necessarily be bad news.
I am thinking that they are most likely staggering results. I applied around the same time, and my results all came in within the last few weeks. I would be curious to know the factors the determine the time they release. Once again, seems like their doing waves.
Thank you @milws101. Just worried and impatient, I suppose! I really thought if he was selected for the more exclusive Baylor2 Medical (only 70 chosen for the event) that he would have a great shot at the honors program, but maybe I was wrong? He is not a NMSF…
I was not a national merit finalist either, and I was selected for all of the honors programs. I think that a large portion of the decision is most likely the amount of APs and essays. Especially for university scholars where the requirements are dropped, AP credits are useful. I would say that he has a very high chance, which programs did he apply to?
FYI, for those looking to get into the BIC, your essays should be tailored to the nature of the BIC program. DD was declined for BIC as they said her essays showed more of an Honors Program interest (which is true); she was accepted into the Honors Program and Univ Schol. Just a tip if you are really interested in BIC.
