Hi all! I have a quick question regarding the University Scholars program. Has anyone heard back about their status yet? If so, when did you apply? I was accepted into the Honors program and BIC, but, I am still waiting to hear back about University Scholars.
@Coffeeandbooks My DD was accepted into University Scholars earlier this week; she heard about Honors on November 10. Yesterday, BIC declined her application, saying her interest in BIC’s curriculum wasn’t clear and that Honors would likely be a better fit. (Which is absolutely true). I think acceptances for U Schol goes into the spring, if I remember correctly. I know there is another BU '23 student on the Baylor forums who was accepted to all three programs quite awhile ago so I think notification timing comes in waves?
My DD was accepted into USchol on Nov 16 and into Honors before that. She turned her app in on the deadline day of 11/8. She has a deadline to change her major to USchol by tomorrow. Maybe they are waiting to hear from students before sending the next wave out.
does anyone know if you accept the USCHOL invite on the portal if you also need to accept the honors program? Clearly BIC and Great Text are different decisions but is honors automatic since you cannot be USCHOL without being in honors anyway?
@teaforwendy She did accept it. It changes a few things around for her. She wanted to be pre-med/engineering/BIC, but BIC said it was too much. She is excited though because she can explore a few different options that she also loves with Physics and Chemistry. Who knows though, it is a long 4 years.
@dpBU23 the USchol info says you are automatically a part of the Honors Program, but my DD’s acceptances came at different times so we accepted each individually.
@catkat629 that’s great. My DD is on a pre-med thought process as well, but as you say it’s a long four years and a lot can change. Is she thinking of living in the HRC?
@teaforwendy I think they advised you well. My son (DS?) just accepted USCHOL for CO2023 but my DD is a Sophomore at BU in USCHOL and BIC. She loves the BIC program and would absolutely do it again but it is quite a bit of work. With engineering on a pre-med track, it woukd just be too much IMHO to add BIC
@rjsharp7 It was weird that she had such an early deadline for USchol, we honestly did not know why it was so early. It was very clear though, that she had a deadline for acceptance though, as it was stated in her offer letter. Perhaps she was on the bubble given her original stated major of Engineering. She has some fairly competing interests for an undergraduate degree, but USchol won out.
@teaforwendy If she goes to Baylor, I expect the HRC would be a leading choice for her. Her brother is a sophomore there, and currently lives in the HRC. He likes it and it was a great fit for him, but he is ready for off campus living. He is an Engineering major and likes the diversity of intellect in the HRC because it is not primarily math/science based.
