Ok so i am planning on going to study engineering and i have sent half my applications already, but i have a quick question. I live in Illinois so UIC is a in state school. Should i apply to their honors college if i plan on being an engineer? I have heard from some people that there is no point if you plan on going into engineering, but not sure if i should trust them.. Any opinions?

Apply…you can always decide later not to join.

The HC may have scholarships, early registration, or other bennies that will be good for you.

Ok, there is an additional essay, but thanks for the input!

Is there advantages for classes dealing with engineering?

Not for classes dealing with engineering, but for the other classes (1/3 classes freshman year won’t be engineering classes, at the very least), for the perks (better dorm, scholarships, sometimes field trip, free printing, special space, opportunities to do research, priority registration - it depends on the school)… Essentially, if you can apply, do. The benefits are real. If you get in and don’t like it you can always turn it down.

Is there advantages for classes dealing with engineering?

Are there any dept honors courses?

If not, and HC students get priority registration, then you’ll have that advantage. You’ll end up with better schedules.

Since money is an issue for your family, I would think trying for a HC scholarship would be good.
