Anyone know how good the U of O honors college is compared to LACs? Do the honors college students interact w/ each other a lot? Do most honors college student pick honors housing?

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies! If you know ANYTHING about U of O I would appreciate an answer.

The clark honor college is one of the best in the west, if not the country. It is pretty good. Some of the best writers that i was told by my AP teacher either teach or work there.

Thanks for responding! Compared to other LACs though, how is it? Basically I want to know if the honors college students become part of a close-knit community like kids at LACs do. Any comments?

I got into it a few days ago. Hopefully I won't be going, but I hear it's a good school. It's sort of diff, so some pick just normal u of o over it. i think it is one of the top public honors colleges in the nation.

By the way, where do u go to high school billybobbyk?

I replied to your PM, gcards1. Btw, have you toured the honors college or have anymore information about what it's like? I've been to the website, so I know the facts, but I'm interested in any impressions you have about the college. Thanks!

I was actually in the honors college for fall term 2005. I have since dropped out. If you want to be in a community with the other honors college kids then you should select Honors housing. I chose non-specialized housing and I haven't really gotten to know anyone in the honors college. Even with honors housing you'll really only get to know people in your dorm just like any other housing choice.

My feelings about the honors college is that its not that exceptional. They quote stats about over 1/3 (maybe even 2/3) of students dropping out, like its becasue they can't handle the stress of the HC. I got an A- and B+ last term without that much effort. Mainly, its just because its not that special. If you are in the HC remember that you will have 9-11 extra required classes that you must take that likely won't count towards grad reqs.

Personally I was a little underwhelmed by the HC. Classes were about 25, and I had one great professor for lit (Cogan) and one not so great professor (Zahler) for history. I would suggest getting Cogan for lit and Fracchia for hist if you get in. I've spent some time with Fracchia even though I didn't have him as a prof and he is the man. He also has great peer evaluations as does Cogan.

Anyway, I would encourage you, if you want to go to Oregon, to accept admission to the HC and see if you personally like it. And Oregon is a really great and fun school to be at. Excellent people and campus attitude.

In case you are wondering, I'm planning on double majoring in Business and Political Science, which is one of the reasons I didn't want extra required classes.

If you have any more questions I can answer them or get you in contact with other HC students. My e-mail is aquahobbist (at) yahoo (dot) com.
