So here's what I know about the honors college so far...

-You get to room at the much better Hume
-You take two honors classes per semester USUALLY
-UF honors college is one of the best in the nation

And that's about it. Other than that what exactly goes on there? I mean, what classes do you take and how hard/vigorous are the courses? I guess I want a more in-depth overview of the place. I have the prerequisites (1490 SAT and well over 4.0 GPA on UF's scale) and will probably be attending there because I have bright futures.

you get invited to apply. i know how redundant that sounds but its how they do it. i applied for the program late December and received the invitation with my acceptance letter. Combined with Bright Futures, the honors program was too good a deal to pass up.

My son is in Hume. He is taking one honors class per semester. I could be mistaken, but I believe one honors class per semester is considered normal.

You should be able to find the list of honors classes on the UUF website. My son has described them as being more interesting than some of the regular classes, but not necessarily more rigorous.

They have a lot of social activities at Hume and all over campus. My son loves it at UF!!!

Yeah, I believe you need either a 1400 on SAT or 32 on ACT...I have a 1380 and a 31....argh! But I figure this way, I'm not signing up for any extra work :-)

There is a supplemental application (at least 2 years ago) where you have to write a couple of short answer type essays, no big deal. My son took 1 honor's class per semester freshman year, but couldn't take one last fall (class conflicts), so he is taking 2 now.

The best thing about the honors program is getting to register before everyone else. He also likes the classes, they are small and interesting.
