For College Students Seeking to Transfer into the Honors College:
A small number of first- and second-year students from Stony Brook or other colleges may be accepted for transfer into the Honors College . Minimum transfer criteria include a GPA of 3.5 in a rigorous and well-rounded academic program. It is also important to have demonstrated vigor and leadership outside of the classroom. If you are interested in applying into the Honors College as a transfer, you must complete an application and return it by May 1st. A copy of the transfer application can be obtained by contacting the Honors College.

It's tough to do, because the Honors College seminars are really structured around students coming in as first-year students. It's certainly possible, but I believe it's more selective than it is for freshmen.

Oh ok thanks.

It is possible. I know someone who did it. Don't worry.

Thanks.

If you dont mind me asking, what year are they in?

Freshman. Anything is possible at Stony if you annoy the administration enough. Trust me, I know how hard-headed and sometimes incompetent most of them are.

So should I apply when I enter in the fall?

No apps are due in may of each yr. Plus they need your 1st yrs grades before any decision can be made. Focus on your grades and less on the app b/c they are the determining factor.

It's not likely something you'll want to do after your first year. All the benefits you really get in your first year, and once your freshman year is over, you'll have taken a lot of DECs that you won't want to waste! (Honors college students have different requirements)
