Honors Housing v. Engineering Residential Experience

My son has been accepted to the Honors College, which includes the HC housing option. He also has the option of the Engineering Residental Experience (Wilson Hall). Does anyone have insight on which housing option would be the best way to go? He definitely wants to be a part of the HC, just not sure about which housing option would be better.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

^I’d say either one is fine. Wilson hall is a pretty nice hall to live in, not far from the engineering building; if you choose honors housing, it is not one dorm where students are housed in, but honors floors in several different dorms (there is no guarantee where you’ll end up, unlike if you were part of the engineering residential experience). Honors floors (particularly for guys) tend to have a good sense of community, but the same goes for any residential experience. Honors floors for guys also tend to have a lot of engineering majors anyways, although there are likely to be more upperclassmen/sophomores living there than just freshman like the spartan engineering experience. Wilson hall also has a special computer lab for engineering majors. I’m not very conclusive about which one is better…I guess I would choose the spartan engineering experience just so you know what building you are going to end up in (vs you could end up in a honors floor across campus far away from all the engineering classes).

One more thing related to this topic… can a student choose honors housing after freshman year, provided they still are members of the Honors College? Or can one only enter honors housing as a freshman?

I’m don’t know 100% but I am pretty sure that you can be part of honors housing after freshman year…especially as there are several upperclassmen that choose to live on honors housing. You might have to request it particularly, but I don’t know the details
