I'm definitely honored to be in the honors program at Udel, but does anyone know what perks this program has? Besides a great education, I know that honors students also seem to stay in bigger/nicer dorm rooms. I just wanted to see if there was anything else that honors students can do, like first picks when making schedules? Thanks!

Just FYI (unless they change it this year) Honor Program students at UD have for a number of years have been housed together in the Russell Dorms. They are older buildings but have fairly recently been renovated so are nice overall. They are mostly relatively small doubles (roughly 8’ by 12’ per student spacewise) with some singles. The rooms share communal bathrooms/showers located at the end of each wing. The newer dorms (two rooms share a single bathroom) at UD are larger but do not house Honor Program students.

Honors Program students register for specific Honors sections of many courses so they do not have to compete for spaces with the general student population for these sections. However, not all courses have Honors sections. I am not sure if Honors Program students get preference for these non-honors sections (perhaps they do). Honors sections of courses are smaller in size, provide more individual attention/interactions with professors, usually have expanded course content-but usually, as a result, require more work (at least my D found this to be the case in the Nursing Honor courses she took).

There are many other activity/social perks as well. I’m sure others will chime in on these. Best wishes to you.

Thanks so much!

I wouldn’t necessarily say that the honors dorms are newer. Russell dorms are nice and very clean and well kept, but not new. There is a lot of freshman support. Russell Fellows on every floor, as well as RAs. There are social events in Russell all the time. HOnors students register earlier and have honors sections. They are guaranteed honors housing all four years. My daughter found out this semester that there is honors funding for trips/enrichment that can be obtained. Not guaranteed, but applied for. Her class is taking a day trip with honors funding because she and another honors student are in the class.

Thanks! I looked up the Russell dorms online and they do seem pretty nice.
