So I’m a little unsure of how the honors program works, can you be in both the honors program and the college of engineering? And if so is that something common? Also for housing as an engineering major would you have to stay in the engineering dorms or could you live in the honors dorms instead? If there are any engineering/honors students here maybe you could shed some light or offer some advice!
My son is an engineering major - and lives in the honors dorm. Honors is separate from your major. You take soe classes that fold into honors, and your degree. You have to apply to both and get accepted. There are threads below about honors. My son loves the honors quad, location, friends, food, etc. Will be living there again his sophomore year. Same room, same hall. You need to apply to honors and be accepted to live in honors housing - lots of info on NC State websitie.
I know that the some of the engineering classes are kind of seperate from the rest of campus and closer to the engineering dorms obviously so do you know if it is a hassle trying to get from the honors dorms to the engineering classes? Also, does he feel disconnected from his fellow engineering majors at all by living in a different part of campus? I intend to apply to both, but I’m not sure how it would be trying to be in both. Obviously there are required courses for both engineering and the honors program, I just didn’t know if that was feasible or common to do both because I wasn’t sure how big the requirements are
As a freshman and even a sophomore most of your classes will be on the main campus - where honors housing is located. So this is not a problem. My son brought in a lot of hours (25 or so) … and even so, he will only have one class on the Centennial campus fall of his sophomore year. So this isn’t really a big deal for freshman. He does not feel disconnected - and has actually found a great group of friends and that is why he is staying in honors as a sophomore. He will probably move to apartments on Centennial his junior year. The requirements - I believe - can all be found on NC State website. But I believe it’s a one hour course each semester. It can count as an elective. Not difficult to do both engineering and honors.
Thanks @MaterMia !
