Honors Program Application

So I recently got accepted into UCLA and was curious about the Honors Program. On their website, it says that you must have 2080 SAT and 4.1 GPA OR be in the top 3% of your graduating high school class. I fulfill both of these, but I was wondering if we can submit our application (along with the essay) BEFORE we submit our statement of intent? Basically, do we have to submit our statement of intent first or can we apply and see if we get in?

Thanks

You automatically get in

no you don’t. website clearly says, “All students who wish to join the College Honors Program must apply by submitting the online MyUCLA application by the deadline.”

all is due on may 1st.

as to the OP, you should probably ask UCLA directly

I sent them an email last week and heard nothing back yet…

Not sure if you have to submit the app after SIR, but I don’t think so.

and this is not a prestigious program, as ThisCouldBeHeavn stated, you pretty much automatically get in if you’re eligible and apply

yes you do

Exactly. You fill out the application and then they accept you, if you qualify. OP says they qualify.

My “no you don’t” wasn’t in response to OP but to the reply above me.

Bottom line is, OP must apply

What is the benefit of being in the Honors Program?

I know I should apply, I just don’t know when! Should I apply before or after I submit my SIR?

I don’t see why it matters when you apply - so long as you apply by the deadline. If you applied before you submitted your SIR and didn’t go to UCLA - it wouldn’t matter. If you applied after you submitted your SIR and did it by May, you’d be in. You can even apply as a continuing student.

In my opinion, honors wasn’t a big deal at UCLA. I once heard, “It’s easy to get in - it’s harder to stay in.” For me, this was true. I was in it my freshman year and then opted out because there were so many class requirements I just wasn’t interested in.
