I've been accepted to the engineering school at UMD. I also got into the Honors Program there. I've narrowed my choice to EIP and DCC and was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what to choose. I'm interested in both but I have some doubts about DCC because I really don't understand what it's about. If anyone can help, thanks!

You get a free iPad in DCC.

but ipads are soooo lame

I would go with EIP, to be honest. I don’t know much about either, but I have a friend in DCC (entered fall 2010) and even though he got the iPad (woo…) he described the program as really stupid and pointless. So I would recommend EIP. See if there is a way to talk to current students…maybe try hitting people up on Facebook? People are usually pretty friendly and open to talking about their experiences.

As a side note. the only persons I’ve ever seen take notes in class with an iPad (not that that’s their only purpose, but I think it is one of their intended purposes as part of the program) was this really pretentious Appple-obsessed freshman (I have no clue if he was in DCC). Notebooks and laptops are still the way to go.

Thanks! Yeah, the IPad isn’t anything special and I’m not making my decision off of that. I agree laptops are much easier to take notes on. EIP sounds like the better choice.

Thanks for the advice!

Is there any requirement of having to keep your ipad once you get it?

Honestly netsnjus, pick the Honor College that you feel will be most beneficial. I am entering the Clark School of Engineering next fall as well and I chose the DCC because it seems to be something I am truly interested in. Coming from someone who uses a Macbook and plans to not use an ipad for taking notes, I would say no one should choose the DCC honor college primarily for the reward of receiving an ipad. Go with your gut and pick whats best for you :)

yodelo, you just get to keep it as long as you don’t drop out of DCC.

thanks guys!!

im between those exact two also.
i know the deadline passed but im pretty sure i can change my points bc the site is still up and itso nly been one day.
im in teh business school but im not much of an entrepreneur so idk if i should do eip
but i heard dcc is pointless and etc

im so lost right now

You don’t have to choose one of the specialty programs. You can choose the regular Honors Program and enjoy the variety of seminar classes.
