I go to Enka High, in Candler.

Ah, we're in the other direction. I wonder whether we can figure out a way to identfy ourselves to each other when we're there. Maybe we can all put "CC" and our usernames here on the upper right corner of our name tags or something!

We went; I was very impressed with the number of activities for students and for parents for this event. I was disappointed that mine did not get to spend the night on campus and because of that, could not attend the student only event Sunday night but was able to attend several classes on Monday. We learned several things that we had not zeroed in on in this admissions process; honors at Tulane does not mean priority registration like it does on many other campuses (a concern for kids who want to double major in radically diffferent areas, but credits brought into Tulane from AP etc. will help), the new dorms will house the new residential college, which new students can apply to, but it will not be the honors dorm, and Butler, the honors dorm is for freshmen only, and the student center will not be completed until the fall, 2006, at the earliest. The rooms in Butler are very small. For kid looking at othe private schools, the overall condition of the dorms and the campus are not too impressive as compared to other private schools and even ther publics mine is considering.

We were, however, very impressed with the students we met, with the engineering faculty we met, and with observing the level of activity on the campus on the weekend as well as on a weekday. The classes that mine attended were great (he has decided against colleges based on these class experiences).

Jax, I'm glad your son enjoyed the weekend and his classes at Tulane. Tulane is working on capital improvements, as you obviously saw during your visit. I will agree they have room to improve in this respect, but with the current campaign that is on to raise the $700 million for the endowment, I think it will start to happen. I have read articles suggesting that Tulane languished somewhat under the old president in this way, but I get the feeling that Dr. Cowen hit the ground running when he arrived at Tulane and is moving forward at a fairly quick rate. "The Bubble" has a certain amount of shall we say "charm", but I know the students will be glad to move into the new center when it's done.

Also attended the Honors Weekend with D and we were both very impressed with the program, facilities, professors and campus as a whole. This surprised me since I had to cajole my daughter to attend and consider the offer she received from Tulane. She actually thanked me and said she would never have known what they had to offer without this visit. I found the university very impressive and think it offers a great deal to a motivated student. It also seems to be a very accepting environment for minority students. So glad we attended!

MarylandMom, I'm so glad you loved the school. Perhaps you can share with us how you convinced your daughter to consider and attend - and then to thank you! I have a 15 year old freshman daughter. Right now she is tired of me reminding her that she still hasn't put in all of her practice time on her clarinet. She made All Region and is taking her solo to state, but did not say, "Thank you mom for encouraging me practice." She tries out for the local youth orchestra program in a few weeks. If it turns out well, maybe I'll hear it then. I won't hold my breath! I think your daughter must be pretty special. Hope she ends up in the Class of 2009!

Be careful. I like it when I visited...but now I'm trying to transfer. Ask some people who go there many questions.

Good luck! For a lot of people, Tulane is the right place for them. But for many, it's not. Think about what you want in a school, and make a post and ask tulane students whether or not those things (like the intangibles) exist.
