What does it take to be accepted into the honors program or get a scholarship? I want to go into business and I know CSOM is already more competitive than BC overall, so I was wondering how much harder the honors program is to get into. Also, the only scholarship I have seen so far is the Presidential scholarship. If anyone on here has gotten it, would you mind sharing your stats? Thanks!
From what I understand, the only merit scholarship at BC is the Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program, and the number is very limited (15). So if the freshman class is approximately 2,000 students, then less than 1% receive it. According to data on CollegeData(dot)com, BC’s top 25% score 34 or higher on the ACT, and 730+(CR)/750+(M) on the SAT.
If you are in that range, then you have the potential to be one of the 15 of 500 or so in that range, but the odds are still pretty long.
@stencils Do you know if BC has good aid for those that need a lot? Their average aid package is very high and they claim to meet 100% of need but I have seen some posts on how bad their FA is. I think they consider home equity more than other schools but that won’t affect me too much. Other than that, is FA good at BC? I know they meet 100% of need but their definition of “need” could be generous or very stingy. NPC came out reasonable but would love to hear more experiences.
@class0f2017 No, unfortunately I don’t know about BCs need based aid. Your best bet is the Net Price Calculator from the BC admissions website to get an estimate of your aid, which you already tried.
Maybe my bump of this thread will draw some others in to comment on the NPC estimate vs. actual for BC.
Home equity is about the only thing that BC is not generous on. But, to be fair, the only schools that are generous wrt to home equity are HYPS et al. So if you have low/no home equity, and just regular earnings and assets, the NPC should be a good approximation.
btw: Many schools ranked below BC provide merit aid, but do not meet full financial need.
Good luck.
