Honors Program

Honors Admission: Incoming freshmen do not apply to the Honors Program, but are invited to join by the Dean on the recommendation of the Board of Admissions.

I guess the Dean's invite is an invite to the honors program. sweet. That made my day. Thanks for the info dogs!

yeah same here....that really is awesome...im really pumped now

Dogs, same with my S, he is in CAS honors and just takes one honors course each semester. He doesn't participate in any special honors program events. He loves this semester's course as it is in his major (political science) and it has helped him to further define his career direction in the field.

damn..................just found out...that RSVP thing for SMG has nothing to do with the honors program........they're mailing the invitations out today.............bummer...sry about being the bearer of bad news...oh well..you'll find out sometime this week

i called SMG and that's what they told me....

OhNoItsHeather, I don't think there is. This is from the BU admissions website:
"The most academically qualified students admitted to either the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) or the School of Management (SMG) are invited to participate in one of two Honors Programs."
I would like to know of some kind of "honors" type of program in engineering though. It's definately on my list of questions to ask this friday at the open house. I'll post any info I get when I get back Saturday or Sunday.

The Honors letter comes seperately and is very specific that it is about the Honors Program so you'll know when you get it. If your stats suggest you are in the top 10% range then don't be afraid and email/call and ask since with 31,000 applicants this year you must beleve things can easily fall through the cracks. So follow up. To the SMG kids, maybe Rybus knows but it sounds like they are puting you in a group that they expect to be high achievers via the special invite even if it may not be the Honors program.

what does the invitation have to do with then? I do not think I have recieved one and I am going this weekend. Just curious!

i called today about the honors program invite...and they said i was invited to join the honors program...CAS...so i think that if you receive an invitation on the link you should be invited to the program...they also said that letters were mailed out middle of last week

Just curious, but what were the stats of people who have been invited to the CAS honors program. I HONESTLY think that I must be in the top 10% of applicants, surely, but I wasnt invited, so I kinda wanted to know what the stats were of some ppl who were already invited...

The invite on the link is an invite to the Honors Program. I just got my official Honors Program info for SMG in the mail today, and the letter referenced the "informal dessert meeting" that was mentioned in the online invite.

Sorry, but I'm really confused, what do you mean when you say "S".

I got my Honors invitation to SMG in the mail today. Finally haha.

Ok, so this dessert thing with the Dean is informal right? I know it says on the invitation that it's informal but I just want to double check. We don't have to dress nice do we? Cause I was hoping to just be able to wear jeans and something casual.

CC shorthand: S is son, D is daughter, DS is dear son, DD is dear daughter, H is husband, etc.

still havent received any honors invitation for SMG......does this mean i didnt get into the honors program?

i called a few days ago and they told me that i was invited to the honors program - i still haven't received my letter either, but they said they sent them out last week

Anyone else hear about Honors?

I have enjoyed being in Honors this year. A friend of mine took off second semester Honors though since he needed a break. Its a good chance to be in a smaller group and you get extra attention if you want it. I did not go to the annual BU Fall Honors Trip but I think it would be a good idea for new Freshman especially if you are still trying to make friends. I wish I had gone since its on a Fall weekend when all the leaves are in color and its a great opportunity for outdoors experiences. Its at BU's summer retreat location in New Hampshire.

Here are some of the Honors choices for Fall.

http://www.bu.edu/cas/honors/coursesf06.html

Hi, I'm new to the boards and I was wondering if anyone was accepted to the CAS honors program and if they could tell me what the stats are of a student who was accepted?

Usually in the top 10% so hard to say exactly what that is since I took the old SATs before coming here last year and was accepted with scores in the low 1500s and GPA 4.7 W. I'd say it is in the 22-2300 as a mid-range.

Regarding Honors averages. The regular BU profile for current Freshman has 25% above 1410, The Honors group is supposed to be the top 10% so it doesn't quite make sense since it seems kids with low 1400s or even less have gotten in. I'm thinking that the 25% over 1410 includes the University Professor Program and 7 yr. MD program type kids so maybe for CAS the top 10% is lower. I agree that it would be safe to say that most are in the 2100-2400 range.
