Honors Program

Hello! I was accepted into Duquesne’s Honors Program, and I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference in the academics/courses you would take as an honors student vs not being in the honors program. Also, how does assumption hall compare to the other freshman housing? Thank you so much!!

If you get a room in the hallway the rooms are fairly large. My daughter is a freshman this year in assumption and got stuck in a corner room. It’s AWEFUL!!! She also told me at the room lottery this year for next most kids were praying they didn’t get assumption. She will be in Towers next year. Good luck

My daughter found the Honors college courses to be more interesting and less work than her peers in the regular curriculum! Not as much busy work and more personal interaction and class discussion and attention. Smaller classes and better professors. Honors College students get to register for classes BEFORE the regular students which is a huge advantage. Also, you can make any class into an Honors college class, by proposing research or service work, if you can’t find an honors class which fits your schedule due to mandatory class scheduling in your major. The head of the Honors College is wonderful and they have special events and breakfasts each week which are hosted in Assumption. Personally, I think they should give the Honors College students the best housing, but that is not my call. As a freshman, you don’t have to be in Assumption. The rooms in Assumption are larger, but they are older and have high ceilings which make them seem larger too. They are coed by floors as are towers and st martins. More freshman will live in St Ann’s and St. Martin’s and Assumption, if you want to meet other freshman. Towers elevators are slow, but you don’t need to leave the building to eat. The campus is vertical, so it does not take long to get from one side to the other. GO HONORS. Don’t let the thought of harder classes deter you. Challenge yourself.
