Honors Programs: the good and bad?

Aside from housing, what are some of the best perks of the Honor's Program and what are some of the disadvantages?

HSG

No disadvantages - other perks are smaller honors sections of intro classes and the honors seminars (some are pretty cool thing like spies and beatles).

Agree with kiddie.

Also, more perks:
-Access to Honors Dialogue of Civilizations (which are less competitive sometimes bc only Honors students can apply so less people fighting for spots) to Rome or Spain
-Discounted tickets to random events throughout the year (musicals, The Nutcracker, sports, etc)
-God, I know you said besides housing, but really, DAT HOUSING. IV freshman, West Village sophomore year.

The housing is definitely a big plus. I also enjoyed having honors sections of classes. Sadly, though, there are not many honors classes after freshman year.

On the other hand, the honors program itself often feels out of touch with the students in it. The Enhancing Honors class is required in your first semester, now graded on an A-F scale, and is almost universally disliked. That said, it is only once per week for a single semester so it’s not really a big deal. There are other weird quirks like mandatory meetings with honors advisors who don’t seem to be able to do a whole lot for you and a rather pointless “e-portfolio” required for graduation as an honors student. Overall, though, the gripes are pretty minor and I would say the housing options alone more than make up for them.
