Honors Programs

So I know about the Rodman Honors program at UVa, and that people are chosen by the school. I was wondering, are there any other such honors programs at UVa I could apply for to distinguish myself among other students?

Thanks for the help!

Echols Scholars are similar to Rodmans, but in Arts and Sciences rather than Engineering. There are also Arts Scholars for students with talent in music, studio art, drama, etc. Admissions picks these people initially but it’s possible to apply to the Echols program, at least, in the second semester of your first year.

Okay thanks! Also, does the school pick new students to be in the Rodman program each semester, or is it like the students they pick out of high school are the only Rodmans for their class? What I’m asking is, is it possible to be selected for Rodman if you’re already in the school?

In late Oct/ early Nov of your first semester you can apply for the Rodman program if you were not selected from high school. There are some short answer questions and a LOR. Of the ‘many’ applications received, 5-10 will interview, and 4-6 will be selected.

You can also receive departmental honors in many departments.
